Pregnancy, loss, and the quiet pressure to “act normal” at work. These are stories many women carry, but rarely speak about.

In the final episode of the Unheard Stories, Yvonne and Jenny sit down with Sophie and Daphne from NUS Health and Wellbeing to share the emotional realities behind miscarriage, pregnancy fears, workplace expectations, and the shame that often keeps women silent.

They share the messy, human parts we don’t often talk about… and the simple, gentle support that helped them get through one of the hardest seasons of their lives.

Because sometimes, what we need most isn’t grand gestures, just quiet spaces and gentle understanding.💛

As 2025 winds down, let’s take a moment to look back on the small but meaningful pauses we’ve shared together this year. 💛

From learning to notice what we feel, to showing compassion for ourselves and others, every moment reminded us that caring starts from within. 🌿

✨ So, here’s to slowing down, checking in, and finding gentle ways to nurture our wellbeing. One mindful moment at a time.

Every workplace has its own mix of personalities, from those who thrive under pressure to those who fade under stress, and even those who test our patience just a little. 😠

When things start to feel thorny, sometimes it possibly helps to pause and notice what’s happening within us. Maybe it’s stress. Maybe it’s frustration. Maybe it’s just fatigue after trying to keep everything together.

Acknowledging what we feel doesn’t mean we’re giving in. It means we’re giving ourselves the clarity to respond with care.

Because understanding how we feel is often the first step towards understanding what we need. And sometimes it means we can consider responding with kindness and self-compassion… to ourselves. 🍀

Parenting isn’t about getting it perfect, it’s about staying present, even when it’s hard.

In The Unheard Stories Ep 2, Zhengqin, a father of four and clinical psychologist, chats with Daphne and Jenny from NUS Health and Wellbeing to talk about the unseen side of parenting: guilt, burnout, self-doubt, and the small joys that make it all worthwhile.

Because sometimes, showing up with love is the best we can do, and that’s enough.

This NUS Wellbeing Day reminds us that self-care doesn't always have to be big or fancy.

It can begin with the small, everyday choices we make like going to bed a little earlier, taking a mindful pause between meetings, or simply slowing down to breathe. 💤

When we care for ourselves in small ways, these small steps can grow into powerful habits that help us rest, recharge, and show up for ourselves and for others. 😌

Let’s celebrate the little things that keep us well. Because small steps, taken often, can make the biggest difference.

💭 “Don’t be afraid to seek help — and don’t be afraid to reach out.”

In our very first episode of The Unheard Stories, Sven Peterson, a principal research scientist at Duke-NUS, shares his personal journey from denial and self-doubt to finding compassion for himself and others.

Together with Sophie and Daphne from NUS Health and Wellbeing, they open up and share a heartfelt conversation on recognising symptoms, the importance of seeking help, and how compassion, from others and ourselves, can make all the difference.

🌏This World Mental Health Day, let’s pause and remind ourselves, support doesn’t always come in grand gestures. It can begin with the small, everyday actions: a kind word, a listening ear, or simply showing up for someone.

At NUS, you’re never alone. Our Peer Staff and Student Supporters (PSS) are here to offer a safe, confidential space where you can talk, share, or simply be heard, with no judgment and no pressure.

Together, let’s keep building a community rooted in compassion, understanding, and care, where every conversation matters and every small act of kindness makes a difference.

💬 Take a step today: Look. Listen. Link. Advocate.

For yourself, and for others, because no one should have to go through it alone. 💙

🐾 First day on the job… and already teaching humans how to self-care!

Earlier this year, we held our Beyond the Fluff workshop where our furry wellbeing paw-fessionals showed that self-care is about intentionally making time for ourselves and doesn’t need to take long! From gentle stares that slow us down, to basking in the sun and nudging reflection time, they reminded us to pause, be present, and give ourselves a little self-compassion. 🌿

🎥 Watch how these paws-on instructors guide humans through self-care, one mindful moment at a time.

Thanks to everyone who joined in and showed up for themselves!

A gentle nudge to check in with ourselves today and take the lead from our wellbeing paw-fessionals. 💙

Reality came callin’—and we chose to answer with rest.

We loved seeing so many of you slow down, unwind, and reconnect with yourselves in our immersive VR and 360° workshop. 🌿💭

The experience reminded us that:
🫶 Rest isn’t just a break—it’s an act of self-compassion we give ourselves, especially when life feels overwhelming.
🍃 Being present isn’t about clearing our minds, but about gently accepting whatever is happening—thoughts, feelings, and all.
💡 Even a few moment of stillness can help us regain focus, calm, and a sense of groundedness.

Here’s a peek back at the calm, the care, and the quiet strength that filled the room. Because sometimes the most meaningful progress begins with simply being here, right now.

Now that we know why taking breaks matters, ready to learn how to actually take one?

Listen as Daphne shares three simple yet meaningful tips to help us pause and recharge:
💡 Tip 1: Step away from your screen. Give your mind and eyes a breather.
💡 Tip 2: Check in with yourself – are you living a balanced life that feels fulfilling?
💡 Tip 3: Find physical comforts such as a warm shower or a comforting drink to help us rest and reset.

Rest isn’t just important – it’s what helps us stay grounded, recharge our energy, and show up fully for the people and goals that matter most to us. 💙

25/07/2025

Taking a break doesn’t have to mean dropping everything and doing nothing. Taking a walk in nature, reading a book, or spending a quiet Friday evening at home – these are all forms of rest too! 📚✨

When we don’t give ourselves space to pause, it’s easy to get snappy or lose our temper with the people around us. That’s why finding moments of rest, in ways that feel right for us, matters for us to show up as the best version of ourselves.

Let Daphne take us through why taking breaks is so important for our wellbeing, and how offering ourselves rest and self-compassion allows us to extend that same compassion to others too.
