Your knees are one of the most hardworking joints in your body.

It's normal to feel some soreness after a run or a day on the slopes, but what's a normal ache and what's a warning sign?

Hereโ€™s a quick guide to help you decide.

- Swelling, redness, or warmth around your kneecap.
- A "pop" or "snap" sound at the time of injury.
- A locking sensation where you can't straighten or bend your knee.
- Instability or the feeling that your knee is going to buckle.
- Pain that is persistent and doesn't improve with rest.

Trust your instincts.

If your knee pain is severe, sudden, or just won't go away, it's best to get it checked out by a professional.
