If you have suffered from Eczema, you will know how uncomfortable and frustrating the skin irritation is. In TCM, it is essential to differentiate the different types of Eczema in order to treat it effectively (I have discussed this in an earlier post). There is really NO one size fits all medication.

During TCM treatment (ie. acupuncture and herbal medication), you will still need to exercise some discipline in your diet and lifestyle to avoid further flare-ups and aid a quicker recovery. The above are a few self-care tips that you can share if you have friends or family members suffering from it.

Recently, there has been more people coming in with flu and cough symptoms.

Did you know there are different types of coughs in TCM? The chart on the different types of phlegm is only a guide and not for the purpose of self-medication as other accompanying symptoms need to be taken into consideration as well.

Diagnosis has to be made on a case-by-case basis and prescriptions are customised according to your symptoms and body constitution. This is also why over-the-counter medicine works for some but not others...not because the medicine is ineffective, but the diagnosis is incorrect.

As the year draws to a close, I'd like to thank everyone who has brought a smile to my face and joy to my heart. Grateful for your love, trust and support.

As we take a step back to reflect on the many lessons, hard and soft, let's be grateful for every lesson and person that was placed exactly where they were supposed to be...they were there to help us become a better version of ourselves.

May the new year bring you all love, peace, good health and happiness!

Merry Christmas!

Most of us think that TCM herbs are for ingesting. Did you know that you can use them for aroma therapy too?

Here's a simple aromatic herbal sachet 香囊 recipe which you can try making, the ingredients are easily available from most chinese herbal shops.

Aromatic herbs can stimulate the central nervous system to produce immunoglobulin which in turn boosts your immune system. This recipe can also help repel insects.

You can hang it near your bed, place it near your office desk or in the car (but please keep it out of reach from young children, this is for external use. DO NOT ingest).

3g Cloves (丁香)
3g Cinnamon twigs (肉桂)
3g Tatarinow Sweetflag Rhizome (菖蒲)
3g (苍术)
3g Eupatorium (佩兰)
3g Chinese mugwort 艾叶

Cut all the ingredients into small bit and lightly pound it to release the aroma. Pack it in in a tea filter bag and place it into your favourite cloth bag.

Due to the humidity in Singapore, you can sun it frequently to keep it dry and more lasting.

After the herbs loses it scent, you can compost the herbs and return it to mother earth.

Hi everyone, I am sharing a podcast I did recently with Mr. Chris Henson from CCBTV .tv. This is a light-hearted talk show discussing All Things TCM, from yinyang theory to acupuncture, to cupping, etc. plus some burning questions that people always wanted to ask.

I want to extend a special thanks to Mr. Chris Henson for inviting me as his first guest on his show for this season. His talk shows are very unique in that they are all unscripted (you won't know what questions Chris will be asking, yikes), unrehearsed, "raw and unadulterated" as he would put it, all to ensure authenticity is presented to his audience.

You can also find the YouTube link at the top under my profile. https://youtu.be/_gVpQeZJE1E?si=6PxRZwddY5h8E45m

Hope you find the information shared in this podcast helpful. For my friends who have spent time watching and giving me their valuable feedback, thank you so much!!!

Finally, thanks also to all my supportive colleagues from Real Health Medical!

Melasma is a skin condition where brown patches or freckle-like spots appear usually on the face.

In TCM, the reason for Melasma to form can be poor diet, inadequate rest, mental stress and hormone imbalance. People who are always tired, lacking sleep, or stay up very late have higher chances of getting Melasma and freckles.

The treatment principle in TCM is to revitalise Liver Qi and blood stagnation, improve kidney yin through herbal medicine and acupuncture.

Facial acupuncture is also helpful to target specific areas to reduce inflammation and stimulate circulation. If you observe where the spots are appearing, it can also give you a clue on the related organs.
