Weights Make Me Bulky” — Why This Is a Misconception
It’s a comment we hear almost daily, especially from clients who are injured or hesitant to lift despite being frequently in pain.
“Weights make me bulky.”
But the truth is—they don’t. Not on their own.
And for the vast majority of people, strength training is exactly what prevents injury, supports healing, and creates a leaner, stronger body.
Getting “Bulky” Takes Intention, Not Accidents
Muscle mass doesn’t appear overnight. To actually build significant size, you need:
• A calorie surplus
• High-volume, hypertrophy-focused programming
• Consistent heavy training
• Years of dedication
Most people—especially those recovering from injury—are doing the opposite: controlled, moderate strength training to rebuild stability and movement quality.
That type of training builds strength, not bulk.
To prevent injuries and prolonged muscle strains, add strength training in your programming.
