Ear wax is normal and useful for our ears, but some times, excessive ear wax may lead to a condition known as impacted ear wax.

It is important to get it checked by your doctor as it can lead to a decrease in hearing in the affected ear, and affect your daily activities.

It may also cause ear aches or lead to ear infections.

Blocked Ear is an annoying symptom. There are many causes of blocked ears.

Those affecting the outer ear are earwax and infection. Middle ear causes include a perforated ear drum, middle ear infection and eustachian tube blockage.

It is important to see your doctor to determine the underlying cause of the blockage.

For those that regularly experience blocked ears due to eustachian
tube blockage, a new technique to dilate the eustachian tube may be suitable for you.

The eustachian tube is a channel from the middle ear to the back of
the nose. This tube can be blocked by infection or allergies.
If the blockage fail to improve after medical treatment of the
infection and allergies, balloon dilation may help. This technique is
performed under sedation using a minimally invasive technique through the nose. The balloon is inserted into the eustachian tube and dilated for 2 minutes. The balloon is then removed. The eustachian tube blockage will resolve in a large number of patients with eustachian tube blockage.

Sudden Hearing Loss is a distressing situation. It can be caused by ear wax or water from swimming or shower blocking the ear canal. Ear infection can also be a common cause.

Beyond the ear canal, trauma to the ear drum causing perforation will cause pain and hearing loss.

Middle Ear problems like fluid or infection can contribute.

On occasion, the inner ear with nerve damage can cause hearing loss.

In general, if the hearing loss last more than 2 to 3 days with no obvious cause or is associated with discharge, tinnitus, pain and giddiness, it should be evaluated by a doctor or ENT specialist.

In the event of inner ear issues, delayed treatment can lead to irreversible hearing loss.

So do not ignore hearing loss if it lasts beyond 2 to 3 days.

Bad Breath or Halitosis can be a social nuisance, and even a nuisance for ourselves - especially now that we wear masks daily!

Some of the possible causes include mouth breathing, tonsillitis, tonsil stones and tooth decay.

Tonsil stones are yellowish deposits in the crypts of the tonsils. They are solidified mucus that are often infested with bacteria and is extremely foul smelling.

Removal of the tonsil stones through gargles, cotton bud may be possible.
In recurring cases, the only way may be to remove the tonsils entirely. Tonsils are not required in older children and adults, and can be removed with no long term implications.

Feel free to contact us for an assessment if you have bad breath or halitosis: https://www.entdoctor.com.sg/enquiry.html
