The concept of patients wearing devices to connect with their healthcare data and treatment is not new anymore. Wearable technologies continue to transform the healthcare landscape from time to time with an increasing number of innovators and startups. In practice, however, wearables present possibilities and pitfalls. Deploying and defending this technology to take advantage of its predictive capabilities is a challenge.

In collaboration with Medicine ACP, we are inviting all clinicians to help bridge the gap between startups and the different medical fields to fulfill business needs and create scalable solutions in wearable technology.

As this event is exclusive to CATALYST and Medicine ACP Clinician members only, contact hello@thecatalyst.sg if you are interested to join the event.

Last Friday, commemorated the efforts of ten teams on our very first CATALYST-Alumni Association Innovation Programme (CAAIP) Demo Day! CAAIP is an acceleration programme that invites clinicians, entrepreneurs and members of the tech community to propose ideas that could revolutionise the healthcare space in the post-COVID world.

It was a huge success all thanks to the support of our partners - Alumni Association Singapore, National University of Singapore (NUS) & JUMPstart MedTech SG. A special thanks to our mentors, panelists and fellow clinicians for guiding the teams over the past five months.

From the launch, incubation session, clinician night to the Demo Day, we are extremely proud to have witnessed the development of their innovations such as DNA diagnostic tools and digital health platforms.

As part of our efforts to continue the guidance and support, we will be featuring the ten teams in the next few weeks to learn more about them and their future plans. Follow us here for the updates: thecatalyst.sg/caaip

Key Takeaways:
• Bioprinting is a precise and accurate tool that helps foster the development of end to end cell communication present in the human body.
• As the human body is far too complex, creating a perfectly controlled environment will help the cells be conditioned, react, behave and reproduce effectively.
• Bioprinting is not tightly regulated yet, but it is here to resolve many of the ethical issues and conversations in the medical field. Thus, it is important for researchers to constantly communicate its purpose and functions to society to clear misconceptions and expectations.
• It is important to fully understand the functions of the organs, as well as its tissue structure and vascularisation patterns in order to determine the model/type of bioprinting.

How might one become a clinician-innovator? In collaboration with Medicine Academic Clinical Programme (MedACP), CATALYST convened a panel of trailblazers to discuss the various paths. Here are some takeaways:

• Don’t replicate previous innovations.
• With digital solutions, gather information from stakeholders and other experts to ensure alignment. Avoid upsetting current processes and/or SOPs.
• It is important to figure out what kind of support you need at each stage of development. For technical help and networking, do not be afraid to tap into existing resources, such as (for the SingHealth clinicians) the Medical Technology Office or Organisational Transformation Informatics.
• Be clear on whether you are starting a “greenfield” or “brownfield” project.
• Be honest about your strengths and weaknesses, and then use that knowledge to not only decide your stance on your project, but to also create a team that fills your skill gaps.

If you are a clinician and would like to be part of such events in the future, contact us at hello@thecatalyst.sg!
