It’s always uplifting to read stories of “super seniors” in The Straits Times — older adults who continue to live with energy, purpose and joy.

At the same time, the article also reminds us of a reality we see every day. As Dr Andrea Tan, physician at Hua Mei Clinic @ ComSA Whampoa, shares, many seniors aged 90 and above live with mobility and cognitive challenges, fatigue, and the emotional weight of grief, loneliness and loss of independence. For many, leaving home on their own is no longer possible.

That’s where Tsao Foundation’s work comes in. Through home visits, personalised exercise plans and meaningful engagement, our team supports seniors across the ageing spectrum , including those who are frail or homebound, so they can remain connected, cared for and part of the community.

Because ageing well isn’t just about living longer. It’s about dignity, purpose and belonging, at every stage of life.

“Building trust with seniors and fellow volunteers has been incredibly rewarding.
I hope more men step forward to support male clients and bring a fresh perspective to counselling.”

For over a decade, Mr. Stanley Peh has volunteered as a para‑counsellor, supporting seniors and their families through complex emotional and relationship challenges. Along the way, he has built deep bonds with both clients and fellow volunteers, forming a close‑knit community.

Para-counsellors like Stanley are trained by Tsao Foundation to offer psycho‑emotional support to our seniors, working closely with our counselling team to ensure clients feel heard, supported, and cared for.

Passionate about representation, Stanley actively encourages more men to volunteer, especially to support male clients who may feel more comfortable opening up to someone with shared life experiences.

We continue to journey with Veronica in Episode 2 of CNA's "The Science of Ageing Well", shifting the focus from the body to another vital pillar of healthspan: community.

In this episode, CNA follows Veronica as she rebuilds her social connections, guided by Dr Ron Ng, Geriatrician at Tsao Foundation. The episode highlights how loneliness can harm health as much as smoking 15 ci******es a day and how reconnecting with others can meaningfully improve wellbeing and quality of life.

👀 Spot Café Kawan and our seniors in this episode, as Veronica engages with our older people and takes part in the volunteering activities. Take a look at how everyday community settings can nurture purpose, connection and social wellbeing!

Together with Episode 1, which explored the physical aspects of ageing well, these episodes reflect a whole‑person view of health.

At Tsao Foundation, this is what we believe in: ageing well is not just about medical care. It’s about supporting physical, psychological and social wellbeing together. Community and connection are not “nice‑to‑have”. They are central to healthspan, a message echoed in this series commissioned by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC).

✨ Is there a science to ageing well?

Perhaps more than you might think! And sometimes, it begins with taking the time to understand each person’s unique needs.

Meet Veronica, one of the individuals featured in The Science of Ageing Well, a three‑part series commissioned by the Agency for Integrated Care - AIC Singapore and broadcast on CNA. Her story offers a window into how our person‑centred approach works in practice. Across the first two episodes, our very own Dr Ron Ng highlights how we support older adults like her through a holistic biopsychosocial lens, caring for the whole person, physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Follow Veronica’s journey — from her clinic visits to her volunteer work at Café Kawan.

Watch how ageing well is not just about physical wellbeing, but also about the relationships, community ties and daily experiences that help older adults thrive.

📺 Episode 2 airs Thursday, 12 February at 9.00pm SGT.

Over the weekend, 11 colleagues from Tsao Foundation proudly represented the organisation at the Singapore Hospice Council’s (SHC) 30th Anniversary Sundown Walk, held on 30–31 January 2026. As an SHC member, we were honoured to stand in support of its ongoing work to strengthen palliative care across Singapore. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🇸🇬

Our team took on Leg 1 of the walk, a 15km route that began at St Joseph’s Nursing Home in Jurong West, passing through Loving Hearts FSC (Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre Jurong), St Luke's Hospital - SLH, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (JurongHealth Campus ) and finishing at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore - NCIS. The team completed the leg at 11:45pm, tired but energised by the shared commitment to a meaningful cause.

A special shoutout to our four colleagues who pushed on after Leg 1 with the bold aim of completing all 4 legs (46km) by sunrise. And an extra dose of pride for Dr Ron Ng and Programme Assistant Hung Tzyy Wan, who were the only two participants to complete all 4 legs on the first night. That’s 70,000 steps in 14 hours! An incredible testament to their endurance and spirit!

As Ron shared: “Despite Tsao Foundation being a smaller organisation, we had a sizeable representation, 11 of us out of an expected 70–80 participants. I’m extremely proud and grateful for everyone who stepped forward.”

Beyond championing palliative care, the walk was also a wonderful opportunity for team bonding, shared purpose, and healthy activity that reflects holistic wellbeing, values we deeply believe in at Tsao Foundation.

We’re grateful to SHC for organising this meaningful event and look forward to continued collaboration in supporting quality end‑of‑life care in Singapore.

The Lunar New Year is just around the corner! As families begin preparing their homes for the festive season, decluttering often becomes a central activity. In this recent article published by Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报, Tsao Foundation’s Hua Mei Training Academy trainers Tony Kee and Yeo Sze Chung invite families to view this annual ritual not just as housekeeping, but as an opportunity to support emotional wellbeing, strengthen intergenerational relationships, and create safer, more harmonious living environments.

Such insights reflect Tsao Foundation’s broader commitment to holistic wellbeing, which places importance not only on physical safety, but also on emotional resilience and social connection. Across our programmes, we support families and professionals in creating spaces where everyone feels respected, supported, and meaningfully connected.

Read the article to discover how families can approach decluttering with empathy, openness, and care—creating not only a tidier home, but a gentler, more connected start to the year ahead. Link in the comments section.

Celebrating Art, Connection, and Wellbeing

What a wonderful day for our older folks!

32 seniors from our Community for Successful Ageing (ComSA) at Whampoa services recently enjoyed a meaningful outing to the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), bringing together creativity, companionship, and lifelong learning.

The older persons ranging from age 59 to 99 were from our Active Ageing Centre (AAC), Café Kawan and EPICC (senior care centre). This visit was the culmination of our December Touch Collection Workshop series, where seniors from AAC and Café Kawan explored self-expression through textile art inspired by local Singaporean artist Ezzam Rahman’s “Here’s Who I Am, I Am What You See”.

At SAM’s Learning Gallery, our seniors discovered contemporary works by local artists and engaged in interactive activities, from assembling “animals” from toy parts to leaving heartfelt messages on a flower wall. For many, this was their first museum visit, making the experience both enriching and exciting. One of the EPICC seniors shared: “It was a very nice experience. The exhibits felt familiar and very local, so we could relate easily. We enjoyed spending the day with AAC and Café Kawan seniors.”

The outing was a celebration of holistic wellbeing, where physical activity, creative expression, and social connection came together to nurture body, mind, and spirit. Through shared experiences, our seniors continue to build a vibrant, supportive community rooted in connection, care, and belonging.
