The ketupat, a traditional woven rice parcel, has long symbolised togetherness, gratitude and forgiveness at Hari Raya tables. ๐ŸŒ™

To share this tradition, we invited our patients to weave these same values into their own bookmarks at their bedsides.

It was a gentle celebration, made even sweeter with festive cookies from Flour Power and a comforting cup of Gryphon tea, bringing warmth and a sense of peace to the recovery journey. ๐Ÿ’›

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri from all of us at Mount Elizabeth Hospital!

Wishing our Muslim brothers and sisters a blessed Eid filled with peace, joy, and good health for you and your loved ones. ๐Ÿ’š

Today, Mr Khairul Anwar is living a full life after a successful living donor kidney transplant 18 years ago โ€” a result that once seemed unlikely given the severity of his condition.

In 2008, the outlook was far more uncertain.

At just 46 years old, Khairul was wheelchair-bound and living with a heart functioning at only 15% capacity. As his condition deteriorated rapidly, his wife Radiyah stepped forward, determined to donate a kidney. The challenge: their blood types were incompatible, making a conventional transplant impossible.

Faced with limited options, renal physician ๐——๐—ฟ ๐—Ÿ๐˜†๐—ฒ ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐—ถ ๐—–๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ด and surgeons ๐——๐—ฟ ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—˜๐—ป๐—ด ๐—–๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ป and ๐——๐—ฟ ๐—”๐—ฏ๐˜‚ ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ณ๐—ณ at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals explored a more advanced path. Khairul is a living testimony of how living donor transplantation โ€” even across incompatible blood types โ€” can create life-saving possibilities, offering patients with kidney failure a viable path to timely treatment when compatible donors are not readily available.

Held within our newly refreshed spaces, the experience made learning even more immersive and welcoming for our young participants.

At the event, they explored real medical tools, learned how doctors care for patients in a hospital setting, and even tried guiding an endoscope to clear โ€œgarbageโ€ from a model stomach and intestines.

One especially heartwarming story, shared by ๐˜“๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ก๐˜ข๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ฐ, came from a father whose son attended this same event twice as a child. That son is now 20 and has just been admitted to the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. This year, the father brought his young daughter so she too could have that same chance to broaden her horizons.

A special thanks to The Moment Collective for bringing joy to learning and inspiring the next generation in healthcare, all for a meaningful cause in support of the Autism Resource Centre Singapore / Pathlight School.

We are immensely grateful to every family who joined us, and to all our young doctors who brought so much energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity to the hospital.

If breast cancer is caught at Stage 0, survival rate in Singapore is 99% - 100%.

And yet, too many people are still held back by familiar myths: These misconceptions do more than just misinform; they delay the very screenings that save lives.

She reflects on how modern breast cancer care has moved decisively beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. Treatment today is carefully tailored, taking into account not only the disease itself, but also each patientโ€™s genetics, career, family planning considerations, and emotional well-being โ€” all supported by a multi-disciplinary team working in concert.

Cancer can feel like a matter of โ€œluck,โ€ but thereโ€™s more within our control than many of us realise.

Dr Tanujaa D/O Rajasekaran, medical oncologist at Parkway Cancer Centre, recently shared how genetic testing can clarify inherited cancer risk โ€” and how newer tools like Multiโ€‘Cancer Early Detection (MCED) blood tests may help pick up signals of existing cancers by detecting tumour DNA fragments.

Together, they show why understanding your personal profile and choosing the right screening at the right time can lead to earlier, more informed action.

At our upcoming public forum, ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ: ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€, Dr Tanujaa will share more as part of the panel, โ€œWhat increases cancer risk โ€“ and what you can do about itโ€, as well as the focus track, โ€œUncover Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): From symptoms to real-life journeys.โ€

Life is built on the plans we make for the future. But when cancer enters the picture, the worry often shifts from health alone to how your family will manage the financial weight of care.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What does cancer care actually cost?
๐Ÿ’ฌ Will insurance cover more than hospital stays?
๐Ÿ’ฌ Are medications and ongoing treatments included?

Join us at ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ: ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€, where these questions are addressed openly. This public forum brings together doctors, financial advisors, and cancer survivors to discuss insurance gaps, financial planning during treatment, and practical ways families can prepare.

You will also hear from our multidisciplinary specialists on advances in prevention, screening, and treatment, and how coordinated care supports better outcomes. Survivors and counsellors will also share insights on rebuilding mental well-being and finding hope after treatment.

๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ is a space to learn, ask questions, and gain clarity on both the medical and financial realities of cancer care.
