At the 2025 KADA Anti-Doping Seminar was held on 2nd December 2025, Ms Chika Hirai, Director, International Department, JADA and Advisor, SEARADO SCP(Sample Collection Personnel) Committee presented on a ‘Decade of collaboration with SEARADO and Asian countries.’
For sure, there has been major milestones in the area of SCP training.
It started in 2014 with SEARADO embarking to ensure there are sufficient SCP Trainers in the region.
With the support of the UNESCO Fund for the Elimination of Sport, a group of experienced SCPs were trained as SCP Trainers covering teaching methodology, presentation skills, in-depth technical aspects of doping control etc. At the same time, SEARADO together with the Trainers created a SCP Manual for member countries in the region( some members have even translated to the local languages) to create some standardization.
This was followed by the Trainers training SCPs in the region over the years. The Trainers were brought together once in every 2 years for an update and to be re-accredited.
As the NADOs in the region progressed, it culminated in the Train-the-Trainer workshop in April 2025 this year where member countries have now a SCP Trainer.
There has been a number of stakeholders and personnel who has been instrumental throughout and include:
- UNESCO for believing in the regional project and supporting via the UNESCO Fund for the Elimination of Doping and all countries that supported the application ( yes, in 2014)
- JADA and ASADA ( now SIA) whose expertise ( Ms Chika Hirai and Ms Sarah Townend) came onboard as Master Trainers
- JADA for the support of some of the training sessions
- The Asian Anti Doping Foundation Fund that supported various SCP training activities and the Train the Trainer course
- SEARADO member countries NADOs who understood the importance of this area and supported and collaborated on many fronts ….making it a win-win for the region
- WADA for providing advice and support all along the way
- The Singapore government for it’s support of the SEARADO activities and it’s goal of contributing to the ASEAN region at large
- The SCP Trainers ( Nazima, Irene, Mai, Evelyn and Men) for stepping up to serve the cause - your hard work and enthusiasm to contribute is always appreciated. ( Haha… as much as there were great moments of camaraderie, there were ‘stressful’ moments too but it is through which we learn)
SEARADO would like to once again thank all of you and we look forward to more initiatives and collaboration
