Studies show that half of happiness is determined by genetics, and a little under 40 percent is governed by the impact of external events.

You own the 12 percent of the package that's left, however, and it turns out that the choices you make within that sliver make all the difference between being happy or not.

Science shows that you can have an impact on only 12 percent of the things that determine whether you're happy or not. The happiest people among us understand that if you you make the right choices, that small sliver is enough.

If everything worked out perfectly in your life, what would you be doing in ten years?

That query invites us to consider what really matters to us, and how that might guide our lives. Pursuing this simple exercise encourages openness to new possibilities.

"The point here is it’s also always important to get away from your desk and see the world from different ledges and angles—whether it's from a plane, a bike, a new city ... or on the edge of a 2000 foot cliff..." ~ Ryan Holmes, CEO at HootSuite

Researchers have found that people who meditate 30 minutes a day for eight weeks have improved focus, memory, and cognitive flexibility.

Meditation triggers high-frequency brain waves associated with attention and perception: it feeds the wellspring of human creativity.

Making this simple and short exercise a part of your daily routine will help you and your business.

"I encourage you to experiment with Essentialism. Prototype ways of working. Try out these ideas - and many others. Live by design rather than by default. Use what works. Eliminate the rest." ~ Greg McKeown, Author

"Not every idea is going to be a great idea. Even then, here are some ways to consciously come up with them."

There are no bad ideas. Okay, I stole that line from a favorite TV show, and it goes like this... There are no bad ideas Lemon, only great ideas that go horribly wrong... -- Jack Donaghy, '30 Rock' Ideas are little sparks. Miss them and they are v***r. Catch them. Fan them. They turn into…

Getting feedback is hard but essential. These tips will make the process less painful and more productive.

I meet some of these amazing, extraordinary people just about people every day, as part of my job. They're amazing entrepreneurs, leaders, artists and innovators, and their keys to success aren't complex. Rather, it's the cumulative effect of their simple daily habits.

Here are 17 things the most extraordinary people do every day:

Some people seem to get ahead, no matter what. They aren't necessarily smarter, more creative or harder working than many others. Still, they achieve much more than their peers. Why is that?

"The whole idea of working smarter rather than harder stems from the fact that many of us put in more and more hours only to find we don't get more done. That's why we want to find methods to be more productive in less time."

Regular readers know I definitely believe in the power of hard work. As Jimmy Spithill, skipper of Team Oracle USA, says, "Rarely have I seen a situation where doing less than the other guy is a good strategy."
