St Luke's Hospital - SLH

St Luke's Hospital - SLH A charity healthcare provider enriching lives in the communities since 1996 through clinical, social, and pastoral care.

St Luke’s Hospital, named after the patron saint of the medical profession, was the first hospital in Singapore dedicated to the care of older persons.

Today, we are a community care provider supporting needs through our care ecosystem, spanning inpatient, outpatient, home care and community-based programmes, and specialised areas of care in rehabilitation, dementia, wound and palliative care.
An Institution of a Public Character, we care for 2,500 inpatients and 5,000 outpatients each year, regardless of race, language or religion. Through our Clinical, Social, Pastoral (CSP) care model, we transform lives holistically beyond physical health.

Impactful and innovative in transforming community care, we were the first recipient of the President’s Award for Social Impact (2012), and the first community hospital to receive the National Healthcare Innovation and Productivity Medal (National University Hospital – St Luke’s Hospital Integrated Care Path, 2016).

We partnered the National University Health System (NUHS) to pioneer the Patient Appointment Consolidation (PAC) programme, which won the overall Excellence Champion Medal in the National Healthcare Innovation and Productivity Medals in 2017. In 2022, we were also awarded with the National Healthcare Innovation and Productivity Medal for the Community Response Team (CRT) project, and a joint-hospital Improving Mobility Via Exoskeletons (IMOVE) programme.

Through our concerted efforts to build a thriving workplace, we received the Great Place To Work® certification in 2023, a global standard for quantifying and benchmarking employee experience.

What does a typical workday look like for a Pastoral Counsellor?

Step into a day in the life of our Pastoral Counsellor Aldran Wong, as he walks alongside patients and caregivers — offering a listening ear, providing comfort and reassurance, and contributing to holistic, multidisciplinary care.

At St Luke’s Hospital, our Chaplaincy team is an integral part of our Clinical, Social, and Pastoral (CSP) care model. Serving individuals of all faiths and backgrounds, they bring hope, reassurance and quiet strength in moments that matter most.

To our pastoral staff and counsellors, thank you for the compassion, dedication and heart you bring to our patients every day. Wishing all a blessed Global Chaplains Day! ✨

At the 18th SLH Wound Conference, we were honoured to bring together a passionate community of clinicians, nurses and healthcare partners, united in their shared commitment to advancing wound care practices.

This year’s theme, “From Assessment to Action: Elevating Wound Care Practices,” highlights the critical role of accurate and timely wound assessment in guiding effective, evidence-based treatment — especially in an era of ageing populations and increasingly complex care needs.

Opening the conference, A/Prof Tan Boon Yeow, CEO of St Luke’s Hospital, set the tone with an inspiring reminder: “When we take time to understand the full picture — clinical, social, and emotional — we are better able to act with purpose and compassion.”

We were privileged to hear from experts from Changi General Hospital (CGH), National Healthcare Group Polyclinics, Singapore General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) who shared valuable insights across a wide range of topics, including tools, techniques and best practices for wound assessment, innovations in wound dressings and treatment modalities, and the management of complex and malignant wounds.

A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, partners and participants for contributing to the rich exchange of knowledge and experience. Together, we will continue to strengthen capabilities, deepen partnerships, and advance wound care for the communities we serve.

Walking in Solidarity for Palliative Care in Singapore 👍

We were delighted to support the SHC Sundown Walk, where participants united to celebrate and support Singapore Hospice Council and its 27 member organisations for three decades of advancing palliative care in Singapore, through a two-day, 100km journey across 30 checkpoints.

St Luke’s Hospital was glad to host participants for Day 1 – Leg 1, welcoming them with cheers, refreshments and small tokens of encouragement as they continued their journey.

Our multidisciplinary colleagues — including nursing, rehabilitation, care and integration, and chaplaincy staff — also joined the walk in support of this meaningful cause.

We look forward to continuing our partnership to strengthen palliative care and compassionate end-of-life support in the community, transforming care one step at a time.

Exercise is medicine for ageing well — yet not all seniors have equal access to safe and appropriate programmes.

To help seniors remain active and independent, we launched Gym Up, a community gym that integrates rehabilitative equipment with gamified functional training, making exercise safer, more engaging, and part of everyday care.

Gym Up was developed from our “Exercise is Health: Normalising Exercise for Elderly Primary Care Patients” initiative, which was honoured with the Best Adopter Medal at the National Healthcare Innovation & Productivity (HIP) Medals 2025.

We've successfully concluded the Compassionate Care Conference 2026!

We were honoured to have Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Manpower, as Guest of Honour to mark the opening of the conference.

Over two days, inspiring keynotes, interactive workshops, and reflective conversations explored empathy, cultural humility, and inclusive care in an increasingly complex world.

A key milestone of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation, reaffirming our shared commitment to advancing compassionate, person-centred care in Singapore and beyond. We also honoured the legacy of Dr Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, whose enduring values of dignity, compassion, and the human experience align closely with St Luke’s Hospital’s approach to holistic care.

A notable first for the conference was the Leadership Spotlight segment, which brought together leaders from across sectors — DHL Express Singapore, National University Health System - NUHS, SAMH and SACS, SMRT and Singapore Prison Service. This cross-sector exchange offered practical insights into how compassion can be intentionally embedded at every level of an organisation, with a strong emphasis on compassion through presence.

The conference closed with an insightful panel discussion on “Challenges to Compassion in Our Times: A Digital-Era, Multi-Polar World,” underscoring the importance of intentional design for connection. By leveraging technology to manage routine tasks, we can create space for what matters most—presence, listening, and meaningful human connection.

Together, we can shape a future of care that remains deeply human, inclusive, and transformative.

Most of 87-year-old David Jermais’s life has been shaped by an enduring connection to music.

Last November, he was admitted to St Luke’s Hospital (SLH) for rehabilitation following a hip replacement surgery.

While the procedure itself was routine, David’s dementia - present alongside his need for rehabilitation - required more than standard therapy; it called for an approach that could engage both body and soul.

At SLH, music therapy helped him recollect memories, regain independence, and bring joy to himself and the patients around him.

Senior Music Therapist Camellia Soon notes: “Simple activities such as rehearsing songs, setting up microphones, and preparing music gave David a sense of normalcy, helping him reconnect with the performer within.”

Caring for ageing holistically helps people live longer lives with meaning and dignity. 👍

Today, our CEO A/Prof Tan Boon Yeow spoke at the “Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management: Shaping a Super-Ageing World – Live Longer, Live Better” panel, sharing insights on integrating care, allocating resources wisely, and aligning stakeholders around a shared vision for person-centred care.

Jointly organised by All Saints Home, Lions Befrienders, and St Luke’s Hospital (SLH,), this first lecture in the series – sponsored by Harvard Foundation Singapore – brought together leaders from healthcare and community development to explore strategies for better serving an ageing society.

While strong capabilities exist across acute, community, and long-term care, the next step is connecting these efforts to ensure continuity and coordination.

Preparing for a super-ageing future isn't just about expanding services. It requires linking care models, organisations, and precincts, prioritising high-impact areas, and ensuring systems are ready for the demands ahead.

SLH remains committed to advancing a healthcare system that is integrated, person-centred, and responsive to the needs of our ageing population.

Over two weekends in January, students from NUS Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy joined staff from St Luke’s Hospital to bring meaningful care closer to seniors at Harmony Village @ Bukit Batok 💙

The students conducted a variety of assessments covering several domains including Medical, Physical Fitness, Nutritional, Hearing, Eye, Cognitive and Mental Health.

We’re honoured to nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals by grounding them in community-based healthcare – shaping not just skilled clinicians, but professionals who care deeply and go beyond for our seniors.

A heartfelt thank you to for partnering with us in this meaningful programme!

🤝 Project Silvercare is part of Western Silvercare, our initiative that works alongside Active Ageing Centres and community partners to promote preventive health and active ageing for seniors aged 60 and above in Bukit Batok. “Being a living light in our community — that’s what we’re called to do.” ✨

Today’s townhall was a powerful moment of celebration, reflection and purpose as we unveiled a gifted “Beacon of Light” painting, marking 30 years of transforming community care and our theme, “Honouring Legacy, Shaping Tomorrow.” It reminded us that as needs evolve, our calling as a community hospital shines brighter than ever.

We spotlighted Wound Care as one of our 4 Peaks of Excellence — showing how clinical expertise and innovation drive holistic, integrated care, supported by experience-focused initiatives including infrastructure and nutrition. Through the St Luke’s Community Wound Centre, we continue building sector capability through education and training for the wider community.

And a huge congratulations to our 79 outstanding award recipients! 🌟 Recognised across the St Luke’s Academy Educator and Mentor Awards, Core Values Awards, 4Rs Care Awards, Individual Employee Service Awards, and the Most Improved and Outstanding Ward Team Awards.

Together, we move forward as one — enriching lives and transforming care for our patients, people and partners.

Grateful to be part of the LoveSingapore Summit 2026! 🙏

It was a joy connecting with fellow attendees at our booth—sharing about our mission, services, and opportunities to collaborate and support our meaningful work with the community. Echoing this year’s Summit theme, “Together”, we’re reminded of the powerful impact we can create when we unite with purpose.

This year is especially meaningful as it marks both the 30th year of the Summit and the 30th Anniversary of St Luke’s Hospital. We look forward to continuing this journey with our partners — loving Singapore, transforming lives, and building stronger communities together. ❤️️

Our Story

St Luke's Hospital, named after the patron saint of the medical profession, was the first hospital in Singapore dedicated to the elderly sick.

We have expanded our services beyond the elderly to enrich more lives. An Institution of a Public Character, we care for 2,000 inpatients and 3,000 outpatients each year, regardless of race, language or religion. As illnesses may be long and chronic, we care holistically for patients' physical, emotional and psychosocial well-being.

Impactful and innovative in transforming community care, we were the first recipient of the President's Award for Social Impact (2012), and the first community hospital to receive the National Healthcare Innovation and Productivity Medal (National University Hospital - St Luke's Hospital Integrated Care Path, 2016). We topped the Community Hospital Patient Experience Survey in 2018.
