Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is largely inherited — with 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝟱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 having elevated levels. Yet, awareness and testing remain low.

Unlike other cholesterol markers, Lp(a) levels stays relatively stable throughout life. Lp(a) can contribute to plaque build-up in blood vessels, increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular conditions.

The good news: 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

🎥 Watch the video to learn what Lp(a) is, why it matters, and how you can take proactive steps through regular monitoring, healthy habits, and working with your care team to protect heart health.

CGH anaesthetist and co-chair of the hospital’s sustainability committee Dr Jo-Anne Yeo saw an opportunity to give retired hospital scrubs a second life. Sharing her idea to turn them into reusable scrub caps, Environmental Services manager Theresa Tan and seamstress Lim Zee Moey brought it to life, working through rounds of trial and error to refine the design, dimensions, and structure of each cap so that our care team could wear them well in the operating theatre. The caps are lined with material from old hospital blankets, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Zee Moey, whose work includes mending hospital linens – from bedsheets, towels, and blankets to patient gowns, scrub suits, and curtains – as well as washing essential patient items, takes on this initiative in addition to her daily responsibilities.

Since September 2023, the effort has recycled about 178kg of scrubs to produce nearly 420 reusable scrub caps – resulting in more than 5,040kg of CO₂ emissions saved.

A small but meaningful reminder that sewing the seeds of sustainability in healthcare can start with a single stitch. 💚

📝 Excited to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Moringa Ventures to support the clinical validation and adoption of deep-tech healthcare solutions within our clinical, research and operational environments, to strengthen care delivery and better support for our healthcare providers.

The partnership leverages CGH’s clinical expertise and Moringa Ventures' venture-building platform to create a structured pathway for early-stage startups with innovations across the full spectrum of healthcare and biomedicine – from medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics and biotech to AI-driven clinical decision tools, digital tech and robotics solutions.

“Meaningful healthcare innovation must address unmet clinical needs, supported by a clear understanding of patient pathways, workflows and safety requirements. Through this collaboration with Moringa Ventures, CGH will support the validation of promising biomedical and deep-tech solutions that will transform care and better health. By working closely with innovators from an early stage, we aim to shape solutions that are relevant for healthcare – strengthening care delivery, supporting healthcare professionals, and enhancing patient outcomes,” shared Clin Prof Ng Kee Chong, Chief Executive Officer of CGH.

We look forward to working together through meaningful collaboration to innovate and transform care for better health.

Thrilled to host exchange students from the National University of Singapore (NUS), including students from The University of Hong Kong, Jikei University, Tokyo Ariake University, Akita University, Aichi Medical University and Eastern International University (Vietnam), and our NUS nursing students on home campus at last month.

🏥 Students gained insights into Singapore’s healthcare landscape, and got a closer look at CGH’s smart healthcare technologies and facilities. Our Chief Nurse, Adj A/Prof Png Gek Kheng, shared perspectives on nursing in Singapore; while our multidisciplinary care team introduced aspects of healthcare at the , from nursing education and sterile processing, to rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.

We are glad to facilitate these knowledge-sharing opportunities, and hope the visit provided a deeper understanding of healthcare while inspiring future careers in the sector.

Changi General Hospital’s cervical lymphatico-venous bypass for Alzheimer’s disease (CLyVeB-AD-1) trial, Singapore and Southeast Asia’s first regulated study of its kind, is exploring how neurolymphatic surgery may help manage the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

The surgical procedure repurposes lymphatic bypass surgery to connect lymph nodes in the patient’s neck to adjacent veins to clear neurotoxic proteins such as amyloid and tau from patients’ central nervous systems.

💬 “This procedure was an opportunity to apply our expertise in lymphatic microsurgery to help patients with Alzheimer’s disease who had limited medical treatment options,” said Clin Asst Prof Vincent Tay, Consultant, Dept of Surgery, and Principal Investigator of the trial.

💬 “The surgical principles are similar – creating bypass pathways for fluid drainage – but the target is different,” shared Clin Asst Prof Jeremy Sun, Senior Consultant and Head, CGH Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Service; and Co-Investigator of the trial. “By connecting neck lymphatic structures to veins to enhance the brain’s natural waste clearance system, we can potentially help clear the toxic proteins that accumulate in Alzheimer’s disease.”

Early findings have shown encouraging improvements in behavioural and psychological symptoms, offering new hope for patients and their families.

💬 “These changes, while preliminary, represent hope for families who previously had limited medical treatment options for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease,” said Adj Assoc Prof Lim Si Ching, Senior Consultant, Dept of Geriatric Medicine.

has embarked on Singapore and Southeast Asia’s first regulated clinical trial to research neurolymphatic surgery to manage the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

The procedure, known as Cervical Lymphatico-Venous Bypass for Alzheimer’s Disease (CLyVeB-AD-1), utilises lymphatic microsurgery to enhance the clearance of neurotoxic proteins such as amyloid and tau from patients’ central nervous systems via the glymphatic and meningeal lymphatic systems. Early findings from the pilot have shown encouraging results, with meaningful improvements in behavioural and psychological symptoms.

“This trial represents the essence of translational research – taking scientific discoveries about the brain's waste clearance system and rigorously testing them in a clinical setting. Our goal is to bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and bedside care, contributing to the global understanding of whether surgical approaches can complement existing treatments for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease,” shares Clin Asst Prof Vincent Tay, Consultant, Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery Service, Department of Surgery, CGH and Principal Investigator of the trial.
