This is the most dramatic part of using an AED, but your clear command ensures safety for all rescuers. ๐Ÿ”Š The electric current must travel through the casualty's heart, not through a bystander touching their shoulder.

Your loud, authoritative voice is a key tool here. Immediately after the shock, the heart needs effective compressions more than ever to help establish a normal rhythm. The AED will guide you through the entire process.

Your calm command keeps the team safe.

Experience the guided process of a safe AED shock in a controlled training environment. Join our next practical session.

An AED is a powerful device that delivers an electric shock. While designed for public safety, it's crucial to ensure the environment doesn't introduce new dangers. ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ”ฅ

A wet chest or a flammable atmosphere can create a risk of burns or fire. Your first step, even before turning on the AED, is this quick scene safety check. It takes seconds but ensures the lifesaving shock is delivered safely and effectively.
Would you have thought to check for these hazards?

Learn comprehensive AED safety and operation protocols in our certified BCLS + AED Provider course.

In a pediatric arrest, efficiency is paramount. Two trained rescuers can dramatically improve the quality of care by dividing tasks. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

The switch to a 15:2 ratio allows for more frequent breaths, which is critical as a child's arrest is often respiratory in origin. The key is coordination, switching roles smoothly every two minutes without significant pauses. This protocol maximises oxygen delivery and circulation for the young patient.
Practice with a partner is key for this skill.

Perfect your team-based response in our practical training sessions. Bring a friend and learn together in our next course!

Real-life emergencies rarely happen on a clean, open floor. ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ›ฉ๏ธ This guide shows how to adapt the core CPR skill to confined or difficult spaces.

The goal is always to achieve effective chest compressions. Whether you're in an airplane galley or a narrow bathroom, the "overhead technique" allows you to use your core strength to generate the necessary force. Don't waste time moving the casualty far; start CPR where they are.

Our training includes discussions on adapting skills to real-world scenarios. Get practical, applicable knowledge with us.

For those trained in full CPR, rescue breaths add vital oxygen to the blood being circulated by chest compressions.

The rates differ by age because a child's metabolic rate is higher, and their lungs are smaller. โฑ๏ธ The universal rule is to deliver each breath slowly over 1 secondโ€”a quick, forceful breath can force air into the stomach, causing vomiting. Precision in timing and volume increases the effectiveness of your life support.

Note: For untrained rescuers, hands-only CPR is strongly encouraged.

For healthcare providers and advanced responders, the BVM is a key tool for delivering oxygen. ๐ŸŽญ The challenge is achieving an airtight seal with one hand while keeping the airway open, this is where the "E-C" clamp technique is vital.

Effective BVM use requires practice; an improper seal means air escapes and doesn't reach the lungs. This skill highlights the importance of training for those in clinical or caregiving roles.

Advanced airway management is covered in our professional-level first aid and caregiving modules. Inquire for advanced training options.

The fragility of an infant demands the most precise technique. ๐Ÿผ Using adult CPR methods can cause severe injury. The two-finger method and the shallower 4 cm depth are tailored for their tiny chests. Remember to check for the brachial pulse, not the carotid. As with children, provide CPR first if you are the only rescuer. Your calm, correct technique is their best chance.

Have you practiced the two-finger technique?

An unconscious person's greatest threat is a blocked airway, usually by their own tongue. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ The Head-Tilt, Chin-Lift manoeuvre is a simple, mechanical action that lifts the tongue from the back of the throat, creating a clear passage for air. It's the essential first step before checking for breathing or attempting rescue breaths. Performing it correctly can mean the difference between a clear airway and ineffective CPR.

It's a fundamental skill for every first aider.

A child's physiology is different, and so is their CPR protocol. ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿง’ The most critical difference is the compression depth, about one-third of the chest's diameter.

For a single rescuer, you must also adjust the sequence: provide immediate CPR first, as a child's arrest is more likely due to a breathing problem. After about 2 minutes of care, then call for help if you are alone. Your swift action is even more crucial for their survival.
Parents, caregivers, teachers, this knowledge is essential.

Specialised skills save little lives. Get certified in Child First Aid & CPR.

High-quality CPR is the cornerstone of survival from cardiac arrest. ๐Ÿซ€ This post details the mechanics for a single rescuer aiding an adult. The key points are depth, rate, and full chest recoil. Compressions must be deep enough to squeeze the heart and fast enough to mimic a near-normal heartbeat.

Don't fear rescue breaths,if untrained or unwilling, hands-only CPR is highly effective. Your relentless compressions keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain.

Could you maintain the correct rhythm?
