It is common to see certain terms gain so much traction that they begin to lose meaning within our community - see ‘functional movement’, ‘nervous system regulation’, ‘trauma-informed teaching’...! Do we use these terms? Yes! Did we wish more people knew what we meant? Also yes!
‘Embodiment’ seems to be doing the rounds at the moment, and we thought it might be useful to pause and think about what this means beyond the superficial taglines... When we look beyond trends, what are we actually offering?
If this resonates with you, keep a lookout for our next training dates for Trauma-Awareness + Decolonisation CET 🌀

Often, classes open with the intention of “maximising” whatever length of time the teacher has with you. We understand why this happens, AND, we believe in another way. The check-in only enhances the remaining time we have togehter, it does not rob from it. Join us for a session and experience its benefits for yourself, or consider our training if you’re already teaching and know there’s an alternative to squeezing one more shape or exercise into your sequence... 🌀

It’s common to overextend ourselves during festivities - saying yes a little too quickly, staying a little too long, giving a little more than we have.
This Lunar New Year, may we also make space for ourselves. Bite-sized rituals, clear boundaries and remembering to come home to the breath.
May the year begin with enoughness - not exhaustion. Wishing you ease and abundance this Lunar New Year. 🌀🏮✨

Within Yogaland, we are extremely good at interpreting texts and principles in absolute and rigid ways. These approaches are often in line with dogmatic teachers and lineages that hold no accountabiliy of problematic behaviours and/or recognition of need for change. At Centred Space, we are more interested in the softening of edges, the multiple truths that can exist in any given moment, the being human in a messy world, and trying to follow a yogic path amidst it all. 🌀

Most modern yoga practices often glaze over the physical, mental and emotional differences between women and men, despite women making up the majority of yoga practitioners worldwide. We seem to only acknowledge the womb-space in pre/post-natal classes, and less so in other more athletic and alignment-based yoga classes. In these classes, very rarely do women get asked if they were on their period, are wearing an IUD, or suffer from other ailments that could contraindicate certain poses or practices.
We want to create a more women-friendly space to practice yoga and seek therapy in, especially in a world where more is being demanded from women at home and at work, and where women are suffering more than ever from menstrual pain and disorders (e.g. PCOS, endometriosis), infertility issues and other illnesses. With Terra Luna Yoga, our dream is to create a community of sisters, a healing and empowering space for women of every age and life stage, where everyone is heard and respected. Where menarche, menstruation and menopause - together with pregnancy and motherhood – are celebrated as portals to deep inner wisdom, comfort and strength.
Our promise
As daughters to our mothers, and sisters to one another, our promise is to provide a safe space that is inclusive, supportive and empowering for all women.
Behind the name
‘Terra’ and ‘Luna’ are the Latin words for earth and moon respectively. The earth is associated with mothering and the majesty of life itself - grounding, strength and nourishment are some qualities that come to mind. The moon is often associated with feminine qualities such as receptivity, emotion and intuition. The phases of the moon universally symbolises the passing of time and a woman’s monthly cycle. Put together, Terra Luna represents a rooted feminine consciousness that is delicate yet unwavering, gentle but strong - even in the face of change.
