🌍 World Lymphoedema Day
Lymphoedema is a chronic condition that causes persistent swelling due to problems in the lymphatic system. Although it is common, many people are still unaware of its early signs and available treatment.
📊 Did you know?
• About 30% of breast cancer survivors may develop lymphoedema after treatment.
• In developed countries like Singapore, the most common cause is cancer treatment (such as surgery or radiotherapy).
• Across Southeast Asia, around 15 million people live with lymphoedema caused by lymphatic filariasis — about 2% of the region’s population.
• Globally, over 250 million people are living with lymphoedema.
⚠️ Early signs to watch for:
Persistent swelling, heaviness, tightness, or skin changes in the arms or legs.
Early recognition and proper management can help reduce complications and improve quality of life. If you notice persistent swelling, consult a lymphoedema therapist for assessment and guidance.
