NTU WSC Regular Service Project for the Intellectually Disabled

NTU WSC Regular Service Project for the Intellectually Disabled RSPID conducts weekly sessions for Persons With Intellectual Disability at MINDS WGS & Clementi TDC It is also the first RSP of NTU Welfare Services Club.

Regular Service Project for the Intellectually Disabled (RSPID) is formed in 1985. RSPID is currently working together with West End, one of the project groups under MINDS Youth Group (MYG), to conduct weekly sessions for our Intellectually Disabled beneficiaries. Sessions are held every Saturday, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, at MINDS Woodlands Gardens School. The session comprises of Pre Sing-along, Sing-along, Curricular Development Training (CDT), Physical and Recreational Training (PRT) and Tea Break. Each segment are personalised according to RSPID’s quarterly themes, planned and executed by our dedicated volunteers. Occasionally, outdoor activities such as Swimming Therapies, visit to Singapore Zoo and other places of interest are arranged, to expose our beneficiaries to the ever-changing environment. RSPID's ultimate goals are to help our beneficiaries integrate into our society, gain open employment and create a strong sense of belonging for both our beneficiaries as well as our volunteers. RSPID aims to impart useful social skills to our Intellectually Disabled beneficiaries by organising enriching programs/outings to develop their potential to the fullest. RSPID also acts an avenue for undergraduates from Nanyang Technological University to give direct service to/forge bonds with People with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs).

🏖️☀️ Sentosa Beach Day! 🌊🤗

Last June, both centres of RSPID - Woodlands Gardens School and Clementi Training & Development Center gathered for a sunny beach day! 🌞💕

The calming sound of waves and the warm sand beneath our feet can promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, and offer a therapeutic escape for us volunteers and our trainees. 🌊💆‍♀️😌The sensory experiences of the beach environment can enhance our trainees’ physical coordination and social interactions. 🏰🏄‍♀️🤝

Yes, our summer has just become that meaningful. 🌴

🌍 RSPID's visit to Singapore Science Centre 🙌🔬

Last November, volunteers from Woodlands Garden Schools embarked on an immersive educational experience with our trainees and caregivers during RSPID's regular Saturday evening session. 🚀🌟

💡The interactive nature of the exhibits fosters cognitive development, enhances sensory experiences, and promotes social interactions, allowing our trainees to explore their unique abilities. 💪🎉

A series of posts to commemorate our sessions from September - October 2022 with our beloved trainees.

2022年9月至10月,RSPID 一起共享的美好时光

We are debuting our mascot with this post, do see if you can spot it!

Volunteer Orientation Programme (VOP)
Join RSPID in our annual volunteer orientation programme. We started this year’s VOP with fun games and activities at NTU, where we also learnt more about volunteering with PWIDs, and our service users 🎶🎶. We then went to Pasir Ris Beach for a fun and exciting beach day, where we bonded 🏖🏖. Our dinner was delicious as we had a barbeque at Pasir Ris Park along with West End!

Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节
Join RSPID for our Mid-Autumn Festival! Our trainees made their very own snow skin mooncakes and lanterns, as well as learned about the story of Chang’E 🥮🥮. We then took these lanterns to go on a walk in the park. Our CTDC trainees also visited Jurong Lake Gardens for their annual Lights by The Lake 2022 event, where they saw unique hand-crafted lantern displays 🏮🏮. See you guys next year!

Guud Carnival
RSPID participated in the GUUD Carnival, a fund-raising carnival run by GUUD in partnership with at Woodland Garden School 🎉🎉. The carnival was conducted as part of GUUD’s 2nd-anniversary celebrations. It served as a platform to raise awareness for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs) and to aid their inclusion into the community. Our trainees enjoyed themselves through the fun carnival games like shooting and caricatures and consumed delicious food and drinks. On top of that, they also won many prizes with the claw machine!

Deepavali 屠妖节
Join RSPID in our Deepavali festivities as we celebrate the victory of light over darkness. Trainees and volunteers alike listened to the story of Deepavali, made Rangolis and Diya lamps, and drew Henna on our hands. Special thanks to for covering the event and volunteers for joining us!

Halloween 万圣节
Join RSPID for a spooky Halloween where we dressed up into our favourite scary costumes, did some Arts & Crafts, and played Halloween-themed games 🎃🎃🎃

Purple Parade
RSPID Participated in the Purple Parade, held in Suntec, on the 29th of October as a representative of MINDS MYG. The Purple Parade is a national platform that promotes inclusion and celebrates the abilities of Persons with Disabilities in Singapore. The purple symbolises royalty, with the square logo representing a call for equality for those with special needs in all areas of society. MINDS MYG have participated in Purple Parade since 2019!

Main Committee Handover

It’s time to say goodbye to our outgoing AY21/22 main committee.

At the start, we sown the seeds of our wishes: To create a supportive environment for our service users to build friendships, experiences and pick up independent living skills.

When the committee inherited RSPID, it was the peak of the pandemic. E-sessions were the norm and there seemed to be no way out of it. We enjoyed volunteering virtually through Zoom for reasons such as (1) being able to see trainees from CTDC and WGS in one room (2) technology enabling creative methods of education. But we still craved that physical interaction. And so our committee thought of various ways just so we could express our love in person: delivering festive goodies to the doorstep of trainees, BYTO when the regulations allowed for it, and HV when it was safe to do so.

Today, physical sessions are back in full blast. We continue to see our trainees smile – finally it’s tangible. In the months prior, we were caught in a mess. Waves after waves of changes. But instead of being swept away by the unpredictable current, we kept afloat. Our strong leadership pulled us through, with added strength from our teamwork, and crucially our dedication towards our trainees and our dear friend who always inspired us and taught us positivity.

Have we reaped the fruits of our labour? We don’t know. The journey with our trainees never ends, but it’s time to watch the seeds grow with the upcoming committee. All the best!

RSPID Volunteer Appreciation Dinner (VAD)

RSPID celebrated our annual VAD. This VAD is a momentous occasion for us, having our first physical dinner since the pandemic two years ago. The physical dinner allowed volunteers, old and new, and caregivers alike to take a much-needed break and catch up through casual conversations and reminisce about the events that have occurred over the past year. We hope you enjoyed the games and photo booth planned for all of you!

Special thanks to the University Advancement Office of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore for sponsoring the dinner and making the night possible. Without you, the event would not have been possible.

RSPID Convocation 🎓🎓

Today, we commemorate the graduation of 37 of our seniors. Thanks for putting your time and effort into RSPID during your time at NTU. Despite your busy schedules, many of you continue to volunteer with us after graduation, a strong testament to the bonds you made with your trainees. We understand that some of you could not make it to your physical convocation, but we thank you for all your contributions. All the best in your future endeavours. RSPID will always be a home for you whenever you guys are free to come back 👍

On 11 December, Santa’s presents went missing! 🎅🕵️‍♀️

In collaboration with service users from the Down Syndrome Association (DSA), volunteers from Challenge ur Limits (CurL), and Regular Service Project for the Intellectually Disabled (RSPID) worked together to catch the thief!

We enjoyed some Christmas carols and dance, along to Jingle Bells, We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad.

In separate teams, we solved puzzles by guessing images and spotting the difference.

Eventually, the thief was caught and everyone will got their presents. Good job! 😁👏
