Last Monday, our AAC members got to experience some virtual reality (VR) fun! 😎

As part of The Reminiscence Project by the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), participants embarked on a virtual journey to various locations, exploring them ‘in person’ through the use of VR technology. While these venues may not be the same places our seniors went to in their younger days, they shared similarities that still evoked a sense of familiarity for them, which is all that’s needed to start a conversation reminiscing the good old days and sharing stories and experiences with one another.

Singapore is moving towards becoming a "super-aged society".

What does this mean for us? How can we prepare ourselves and our loved ones when emergency situations - in particular, those that involve the elderly - happen? What can we do to minimise the possibility of such emergency situations from happening?

Earlier this month, our members were taken on a trip to the past with a special programme by the National Heritage Board (NHB)! 🚀💫

Aptly named “Grooving Down Memory Lane”, the programme featured a mix of interactive content and active dance segments. Participants enjoyed some fun activities from sing-along karaoke and senior-friendly seated exercises to classic songs well-known in the 1950s to 1980s, to reminiscing their younger days with nostalgic items including perfume water from the 80s, old school razors, ladies’ purses and more. To complete the experience, they also got to reconnect with their childhood through games such as spinning tops and five stones. We hope everyone enjoyed this blast to the past, and special thanks to NHB for hosting programme! 🙂

School is back, and so are the lovely kids! We can't wait to welcome them back to our 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 for some more fun intergen time with our seniors 🥳

Throwback to last year when the little ones from SparkleTots dropped by right before the school holidays to play some games with our seniors and sing songs for them too!

📱 It's never too late to be more digitally savvy!

In collaboration with IMDA, our centre now hosts a weekly Digital Club aimed at teaching seniors digital skills that could come in handy in daily life. Once a month, participating seniors come together for 2 hours to learn about a new digital literacy topic, gaining knowledge on various everyday technologies such as mobile phones, and discovering how to use them to make their lives easier.

Once in a while, our seniors at our 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 not only welcomes visiting guests, but are also treated to special performances by their lovely visitors from organisations such as Lions Befrienders too!

These collaborative activity sessions are a win-win for all parties involved - participating guests get to showcase their talents via song and dance items that they have given their all to practice for, and our seniors in return are able to enjoy some live performances in return. Thank you to all our participating partners in helping to make our seniors' days in the centre a little bit more special and brighter with what they do; thank you!
