Though extremely rare, Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase deficiency, also known as 𝘈𝘈𝘋𝘊 deficiency, is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by mutations in the DDC genes. It can profoundly affect a child’s quality of life, with symptoms, such as developmental delay and floppiness, often appearing in infancy.

Recent headlines have shed light on this heartbreaking condition, which remains unfamiliar to many but can carry lifelong consequences without early detection.
