Dyscalculia is a specific learning disorder that affects the ability of children and even adults to understand number and learn maths.
This typically means that they may have difficulty in basic arithmetic principles (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication etc), understanding time and managing money. And this can understandably lead to anxiety and frustration for the children as they hit roadblocks in their math learning journey.
While helping children with dyscalculia can feel challenging for their primary caregivers, the right support and strategies can make a huge positive difference for them. For example:
- Create a more supportive environment at home by being more encouraging and less critical of their mistakes
- Use visual aids such as lego, colored household items to help them visualize numbers better
- Integrate maths into daily activities such as grocery shopping and playing card games
Here at Star Whale, we collaborate with highly experienced educators, special education teachers, and other professionals to ensure a personalized and calibrated approach to help children with dyscalculia.
With our upcoming workshop in June (link in bio OR swipe right —>), we want to help Primary 4-6 children who are having difficulty in maths and especially fractions. If your child is having some difficulty, this could be a workshop for you to consider.
