As the founder of Harmony Funeral Care, Christmas is a time for reflection.

My grandmother, the matriarch of Hock Hin Undertaker, built the foundation of care, respect, and service that shaped the roots of what Harmony Funeral Care stands for today. Her legacy reminds me daily that this work is never just about funerals — it’s about people.

Grief doesn’t move in a straight line. It comes and goes, and it looks different for everyone — especially during the holidays.

If you need support this season, please reach out. No one should carry grief alone. 🤍🎄

Not your typical national day flag.. these huge flags are not so often seen anymore but the very act of the troupe balancing the heavy flags does indeed cause the entire funeral to be a lot more 热闹.

Of course such performances do not exactly come cheap as well. Expect fees starting from $1,300 - $2,000 and.. well if you have some surplus cash, then why not engage them?

“I take care of the dead… but I forgot to take care of myself.
Burnout doesn’t always show up as tears or breakdowns — sometimes it’s just silence.
Your body keeps going, but your soul quietly shuts down.”

As a funeral director, I’m surrounded by grief every day.
I comfort families, arrange farewells, remind others that life is precious…
But somewhere along the way, I stopped listening to my own emotions.

🌱 Here’s what I learned:
You can’t pour from an empty cup.
Strength isn’t about pushing through — it’s about knowing when to refill.

So I started choosing me:
• Weekly workouts
• Running
• Two long breaks a year
• Detaching after work
• Allowing myself to be “unproductive” without guilt

Taking care of myself didn’t make me weaker — it made me better at serving others.

If you’re burnt out, this is your sign to pause.
You deserve to feel whole again. 🤍

It signals your pregnancy, keeps people gentle, and symbolically wards off inauspiciousness. 🤍🎀”

My First Experience Touching a Dead Body

This isn’t something many people talk about, but it’s a reality of my work as a funeral director.

When I first entered this trade, I had to learn everything from scratch — including how to shift and care for a body with dignity. I thought I would be afraid. Even my colleagues assumed I would be. But when the moment came, I surprised myself.

The first body I handled was an elderly uncle who had passed away at home. His eyes and mouth were open due to muscle relaxation — something many people don’t realise happens after death.
What struck me most were his eyes. They looked empty, like glass marbles. It made me understand why people say “the eyes are the windows to the soul” — because when life leaves, that window closes completely.

I also learned that after someone passes away, the body may release fluids. Sometimes families are too heartbroken or too shocked to deal with it — and that’s where we step in. Quietly, respectfully, and without judgment.

That first experience taught me the importance of dignity — not just in life, but also in death. And it’s something I’ve carried with me through my journey in the funeral profession.

So if you ever cross paths with a funeral director, do thank them. There’s a lot we do behind the scenes that no one sees, but it matters deeply.

That wake with 70 LED wreaths? Taken down for safety. A reminder that heartfelt > flashy. @

I mixed human ashes into this art piece. 😳
But what came out wasn’t just art — it was love in its purest form. 🕊️

A handcrafted resin coaster made with the ashes of a loved one — so their memory lives on, beautifully.

Humble Beginnings

In 1963, a respectable humble businessman Mr. Tee Hock Chwee saw a need that was not sufficiently met in Singapore. There was a lack of companies offering funeral services for Singaporeans. Borrowing ideas from his hometown mainland China, he started his own undertaker company - Hock Hin Undertaker. Life was hard then. Every coffin had to be specially crafted using bare hands and one funeral could take up an entire day. Focused with the end in mind though, Mr.Tee managed to bring the company to greater heights through the years. The way funerals are conducted have changed over the years and yet the one thing that remains unchanged is the unswerving attitude to serve the people of Singapore.

Fast forward a few decades, his very own granddaughter has herself entered the same trade to carry on the family business with a new face uplift. Well perhaps somethings just runs in the blood - the passion to serve and the courage to be in this trade where most people shun from.
