Advancing Regional Excellence in CSSD Education & Collaboration 🇮🇩🇸🇬🇲🇾🇹🇭🇵🇭🇯🇵 🤝🏼 🇹🇼

ASP Asia Pacific is proud to have co-hosted, together with our ASP Taiwan team, the ASEAN–Taiwan Centre of Excellence (COE) visit at Pingtung General Hospital last week. This 1.5-day program reflects the growing momentum for shared expertise, greater awareness, and stronger regional collaboration in CSSD practices.

With participants from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan, the program created a meaningful platform for deep knowledge exchange between ASEAN and Taiwan. Led by Pingtung General Hospital—who coordinated the program and opened their COE site for immersive learning—the visit enabled both sides to share insights, compare best practices, and understand real-world applications of evolving CSSD technologies.

A heartfelt thank you to all partners, hospital leaders, faculty, and participants who made this meaningful exchange possible. Special appreciation to Clarissa Poh and Rick Chen for the tremendous effort and leadership that brought this initiative to life.

We look forward to driving more regional collaboration, advancing education, and fostering professional excellence across ASEAN, Taiwan, and beyond.

🌏 7 Countries. 50 KOLs. 1 Common Mission — Sterilize & Rise Summit 2nd Edition 🌏

Our Sterilize & Rise Summit returned this year, bringing together CSSD professionals from across ASEAN, India and Taiwan, with expert speakers from Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia, the United States, and Singapore.

In collaboration with MSSA, this second edition provided a platform for professionals to exchange expertise, explore innovations, and adopt global best practices that enhance patient safety and operational excellence.

At ASP, our mission is to empower CSSD professionals through continuous education and collaboration. By fostering knowledge-sharing and advancing sterile reprocessing standards, we support safer outcomes for every patient — because every instrument, process, and professional matters.

Soaking ≠ Sterilization

Soaking only loosens soil and reduces bioburden — it doesn’t kill all microorganisms or spores. Relying on soaking alone risks residual contamination.

✅ Sterilization (steam, low-temp H₂O₂, etc.) is the only validated process that eliminates all microbial life, ensures traceability, and meets global standards — the critical final step in protecting patients.

Not the same! 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♂️ High-Level Disinfection (HLD) ≠ Sterilization

HLD: Kills most microorganisms, but not bacterial spores. Commonly used for semi-critical devices (e.g. endoscopes).

Sterilization: Destroys all microorganisms, including spores. Mandatory for critical items (surgical instruments) and increasingly recommended for several semi-critical devices.

Knowing the difference is key to safer reprocessing — and safer patients. 🛡️

🟢 Non-critical → Cleaning or low-level disinfection
🟠 Semi-critical → High-level disinfection/Sterilization
🔴 Critical → Sterilization
