A common a**l condition, an a**l fistula is a small tunnel that forms from the inside of the a**s to the skin around it, which can cause pain, swelling, skin irritation and discharge of pus or blood.

An a**l fistula will typically require surgical intervention in order to avoid serious complications that it can lead to, such as a**l abscesses and recurrent infections.

Depending on the location and complexity of the a**l fistula, surgery may involve cutting open the fistula and allowing the wound to heal on its own (lay open fistulotomy) or removing the infected tissue and sealing the fistula at both ends (LIFT procedure).

Diverticulitis is the inflammation or infection of small bulges (diverticula) formed on the lining of the large intestine.

Piles (or haemorrhoids) are enlarged and inflamed blood vessels that develop in and around the a**l area, causing pain and bleeding during bowel movements.

Piles are often caused by increased pressure placed on the blood vessels, and this pressure can result from factors such as chronic constipation, prolonged straining during bowel movements or childbirth.

In lower degrees of piles, symptoms can be relieved with conservative treatments such as lifestyle changes, medications, rubber band ligation or haemorrhoidal energy treatment (HET).

For higher degree of piles, haemorrhoidectomy (piles surgery) may be necessary to remove the piles for lasting relief.

A hernia occurs when an organ or fatty tissue pushes through a weakened spot in the abdominal wall, forming a visible bulge in the abdomen or groin area.

The noticeable lump under the skin is usually caused by a combination of increased pressure and weakened muscles in the abdominal wall, which can be exacerbated by lifestyle habits such as obesity, smoking or heavy lifting.

Surgical treatment is usually required as hernias will not resolve on their own once formed, and may run the risk of strangulation and obstruction if left untreated.
