I had the privilege to visit , a leading centre of excellence in refractive and cataract surgery, recognised for its cutting-edge technology, surgical precision and commitment to world-class eye care โ€” including charitable medical services for the needy.

It was an honour to learn from .supriyasriganesh, an inspiring refractive surgeon with exceptional surgical skills, a calm and encouraging temperament, and a genuine generosity in teaching. I recently shared a rare trekking-related eye case at the
Ophthalmology peer review learning session. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

A young trekker developed an unexpected reaction after taking over-the-counter acetazolamide (commonly used to prevent altitude sickness). She experienced sudden blurring of vision in both eyes, swelling inside her eyes (ciliochoroidal effusion) and dangerously high eye pressures โ€” a potentially blinding situation.

With prompt treatment and immediate cessation of acetazolamide, she made a full recovery and regained her vision. A reminder that even โ€œcommonโ€ medications can have serious side effects โ€” always know what youโ€™re taking, and seek medical advice when in doubt.
