💙 Diabetes Awareness Month 2025: Let’s Talk About Diabetes & Reproductive Health 💙

A reminder that diabetes doesn’t just affect blood sugar — it can have a powerful impact on fertility and reproductive wellbeing for both men and women.

🔹 For women:
Uncontrolled diabetes can disrupt menstrual cycles, affect ovulation, increase the risk of miscarriage, and complicate pregnancy. Conditions like PCOS are also linked with insulin resistance, making proactive diabetes management even more important for those trying to conceive.

🔹 For men:
Diabetes can reduce s***m quality, affect hormone levels, and even contribute to erectile or ejaculatory dysfunction — all of which play a role in fertility.

🔹 The good news:
With early screening, good glucose control, and healthy lifestyle habits, many diabetes-related fertility challenges are completely manageable. Fertility is a whole-body journey, and taking care of metabolic health is a key part of it. 💙🩺

Virtus Fertility Centre was pleased to participate in the inaugural symposium jointly organised by the NUS Bia-Echo Asia Centre for Reproductive Longevity and Equality (ACRLE) and the CHA University Global IVF Group.

The event brought together academic and clinical experts in reproductive medicine to share research and discuss developments in assisted reproductive treatments and IVF technologies.

Dr. Liow Swee Lian, our Scientific Director, NUS alumnus, and postgraduate in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at NUH, presented a paper on s***m selection to optimise ART success. He highlighted the importance of s***m DNA integrity in male fertility and its influence on conception, embryo development, and pregnancy outcomes.

We value opportunities to share our work and collaborate with colleagues dedicated to advancing reproductive medicine across the region.

As October comes to a close, remember: whether you’re trying to conceive or expecting, taking care of your mental health is an important part of the journey. Here are a few simple ways to support your well-being:

1️⃣ Move your body — gentle exercise can lift your mood and increase your energy.
2️⃣ Fuel yourself thoughtfully — balanced, nutritious meals help both mind and body feel their best.
3️⃣ Prioritise rest — quality sleep is vital for emotional and physical wellness.

Have a great week ahead!
