Children conceived through IVF have worse health – is it true?
It sounds alarming, but current research doesn’t support this claim. Most studies show that IVF-conceived children have the same overall health, development, and long-term outcomes as naturally conceived children.
Earlier concerns about low birth weight or preterm birth were real, but newer data explain why: these differences are linked mainly to parental factors — age, underlying fertility issues, genetics — rather than IVF itself.
With today’s techniques (safer stimulation, improved culture conditions, vitrification, single-embryo transfer), even those early risks have decreased.
IVF doesn’t make children “less healthy.” Their wellbeing depends on the same things as for any pregnancy — parental health, genetics, and quality of care.
