Celebrating Community, Empowering Women, and Supporting Well-being in Funkia!
Recognizing the critical link between physical and mental health as fundamental to women's empowerment, the Nyali Foundation hosted a targeted event in the Funkia community on March 15th, 2025. This initiative, a key component of our 'whole-female' approach, seeks to provide women across Sierra Leone with the support and resources necessary for their overall well-being.
The session benefited immensely from the expertise of Dr. Elizabeth Allieu, a respected psychiatrist from Sierra Leone Teaching Hospital in Kissy, Freetown. Her presentation critically examined how physical health challenges, financial stressors, and the quality of interpersonal relationships significantly influence mental well-being. This expert-led discussion provided a vital platform for raising awareness and fostering understanding within the community.
In a gesture of solidarity and cultural sensitivity, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, the Nyali Foundation provided the 20 women participants with essential cooking items and a contribution towards their 'sunakati'. This gesture not only offered practical support but also reinforced the foundation's dedication to addressing the multifaceted realities of the women we serve.
The success of this event in Funkia underscores the urgent need for continued efforts in creating safe spaces and delivering integrated health support for women in Sierra Leone. We invite you to explore our photo story to witness the tangible impact of this day. Let us collectively work towards a future where women are empowered and their holistic well-being is prioritized.
