Somaliland and Somalia are two separate entities located in the Horn of Africa. Somaliland is a self-declared state, situated in the northwest of Somalia, bordering Djibouti to the west, Ethiopia to the south, and Somalia to the east. It has a coastline along the Gulf of Aden and covers an area of approximately 176,120 square kilometers. Somaliland has its own government, currency, and security forces, and has experienced relative peace and stability since declaring independence from Somalia in 1991.
Somalia, on the other hand, is a recognized sovereign state, located in the eastern part of the Horn of Africa. It borders Somaliland to the northwest, Ethiopia to the west, Kenya to the southwest, and the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean to the north and east, respectively.
The main difference between the two is that Somaliland is not recognized as a sovereign state by the international community, including the United Nations, whereas Somalia is a recognized member of the UN. Somaliland's declaration of independence in 1991 was a result of a civil war that led to the collapse of Somalia's government.
