United Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS

UNSOS currently supports 21,126 uniformed personnel in the largest UN mandated peace support operation – AMISOM.

Official account of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS)

adopted Resolution 2767/2024 in December 2024, replacing ATMIS with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). UNSOS replaced the United Nations Support Office for the African Union Mission in Somalia, UNSOA which was established in 2009, to provide critical logistic and life support to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and later to the Somali National Army (SNA), the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and the Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group. UNSOS will also support an additional 10,900 Somali National Army personnel participating in its joint operations with AMISOM.

🇺🇳🇾🇪 Today in : The OiC & Head of UNSOS, Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, met with H.E. Fadl Al-Hanaq, Yemeni Ambassador to Somalia.

Discussions focused on strengthening partnerships and fostering collaboration to support Somalia’s progress and stability.

Eleven Beledweyne community members completed a 4-week Aviation Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training, organised by the UNSOS Aviation Section to strengthen community emergency response capacity and regional Air carriers operations.

Participants gained essential skills in emergency response, fire prevention, rescue operations, and life-saving techniques, enabling effective response to emergencies in airports, residential areas, and public spaces, including markets.

UNSOS Regional Administration Officer, Ali Sarjat, commended the partnership with the local community and reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting local emergency services.

The training marks a significant step toward improving emergency response capabilities and safety in Beledweyne & surrounding areas and transferring of ARFF responsibility to the region and the Somali People.

📢 The UK 🇬🇧 has disbursed over $2.5 million to the United Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS Somali Security Forces Trust Fund, bringing our total support in 2025 to $21 million.

This funding is helping sustain joint operations by 18,900 Somali National Army and Police personnel, delivering critical non-lethal logistics through UNSOS; from rations and tents to fuel and medevac support.

The Federal Government of Somalia ( ), African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia-AUSSOM, and UNSOS today co-hosted the Somali Security Forces Trust Fund ( ) event in Mogadishu, bringing together international partners, to emphasize the urgent need for contributions to the trust fund to sustain Somali- led operations.

Through the , UNSOS provides Somali forces in joint operations with AUSSOM, with logistical support - rations, fuel, medical evacuations, transport, and tentage. A minimum of $1.2 million is required to maintain this critical support.
