Shiva Bhaggan from Suriname—a vibrant, multi-ethnic nation in South America—earned his Master’s in Computer Science from the Computer Professionals (ComPro) program at Maharishi International University (MIU) in 2021.

We are grateful to Maharishi and Guru Dev for creating MIU over 50 years ago and making it a fully accredited university. For over 20 years, MIU has helped Computer Science Bachelor students, primarily from developing countries, finance 80-90% of their loans, allowing them to come to MIU with just $5,000-$7,000 to complete their Masters in Computer Science, a program that costs approximately $45,000-$50,000. For over 20 years, this was a resounding success. MIU was the only university in America to fund 80-90% of its international students, as MIU repaid its income by finding jobs for its students, with a 98% success rate. However, in recent years, with the advent of AI, the demand for graduates with a Masters in Computer Science has fallen dramatically. There is still demand, but companies are demanding more qualifications from those who graduate with a Masters in Computer Science. MIU, for example. now asks Bachelors students to have at least a few years of work experience so that they can more easily find a job. https://compro.miu.edu/financial-aid/
We are also grateful for the existence of our local TM center in Suriname, which we have been renting in currency for seven+ years, allowing us to inspire students to attend MIU. Ten to twelve students from Suriname have attended MIU, including myself, Ian Thijm in 1983-88, Radha Thijm, and our children. We currently have two to three students at MIU; one is pursuing her MBA-SAP, and the others are pursuing their Masters in Computer Science. The latter two have pledged to support our center financially once they find good jobs, as without our center and our role as MIU Ambassadors in the last 7 years, this opportunity would not exist for them. We are very happy for their future success and grateful that they are willing to financially support our TM center, which, by the way, exists for the health, well-being and for expanding awareness and Peace in Suriname.
