Improving hygiene and the overall healthcare system at Juba Military Referral Hospital requires a coordinated strategy focused on infection prevention, infrastructure development, and quality service delivery. Strengthening water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities is essential by ensuring constant access to clean running water, functional toilets, proper waste disposal systems, and regular environmental cleaning of wards and theatres. Establishing strict infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, including hand hygiene compliance, sterilization of instruments, proper segregation of medical waste, and continuous staff training on universal precautions, would significantly reduce hospital-acquired infections. Additionally, providing adequate supplies such as gloves, disinfectants, masks, and sterilization equipment is crucial. Improving ventilation systems, reducing overcrowding, and maintaining clean bedding and patient areas would enhance patient safety and comfort. Beyond hygiene, strengthening healthcare delivery through better funding, skilled workforce retention, reliable drug supply chains, modern diagnostic equipment, and effective leadership and supervision would elevate the hospitalβs standards. By prioritizing cleanliness, accountability, and quality improvement programs, Juba Military Referral Hospital can build a safer, more efficient, and patient-centered healthcare environment for both military personnel and civilians in South Sudan.
