My wife and I are both white. Recently, as our extended family gathered in the delivery room, excitement filled the air as we awaited the arrival of our baby. But when the baby was born, everything took a shocking turn. The first words out of my wife’s mouth were ones I’ll never forget. “THIS ISN’T MY BABY! THIS ISN’T MY BABY!!” I was stunned, my mind struggling to process what she was saying. The nurse, trying to calm her down, replied gently, “This is definitely your baby; she’s still attached to you.” But my wife, with a mix of panic and disbelief, cried out, “IT’S NOT POSSIBLE, I’VE NEVER SLEPT WITH A BLACK MAN! IT CAN’T BE MINE!” I stood there in silence, feeling as though the ground had disappeared beneath me. Our family, sensing the tension, slowly started to leave the room, one by one.
