✨Kusdiyanto, a dedicated farmer from Batang Regency, Indonesia, is witnessing the fruits of his hard work. By applying biochar on a part of his land, he has already harvested three times from that plot, while his non-biochar field is still awaiting its first yield.
🥒His recent harvest produced 54 kilograms of cucumbers. “I’m happy to see how biochar helps my plants grow better,” Kusdiyanto shared. “The soil feels healthier, and I can harvest earlier than usual. The cucumbers grew well and came earlier than I expected. The fact that biochar improves the soil and harvest gives me confidence to continue using it.”
➡Biochar provides several key benefits: it reduces fertilizer leaching, helps neutralize soil pH, improves soil structure, enhances nutrient absorption in plants and increases soil water retention.
🌟To address agricultural challenges such as land degradation, overreliance on chemical fertilizers, and the effects of climate change, WasteX, in collaboration with YBTS—EWS-KT’s sister organization in Indonesia—and Agathis Dammara Karbon (Adakarbon), is implementing a project aimed at improving soil fertility, reducing chemical fertilizer use, lowering carbon emissions, and increasing crop yields and farmer incomes, particularly across Java Island.
