Training course completed!
We’re happy to share that the🔥intensive🔥One-month training course on bioinformatics of tuberculosis (TB) has been successfully completed!
The course ran from October 2 to 30, 2025, and was hosted by Pornchai Matangkasombut Center for Microbial Genomics (CENMIG), Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University.
The program hosted 7 participants from Thailand, Indonesia, and Myanmar. Participants gained and developed key computational skills to analyze whole-genome data of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), the bacterium that causes TB. With this training, they are now better prepared to apply these skills to TB research and control efforts in their own communities. This marks an important step forward in the fight against TB, especially in areas where it remains one of the most serious public health challenges.
Special Thanks To:
Prof. Dr. Virasakdi Chongsuvivatwong, Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University, for giving a special talk on “Genomics and Epidemiology”.
Dr. Nattakarn Thipkrua, Office of Disease Prevention and Control Region 5 Ratchaburi, for sharing insights from using WGS in MTB transmission studies through her talk on “A Large Geno-Spatial Cluster of MDR-TB Outbreak in a Western District of Thailand”.
Genomic Medicine Center, Medical Life Sciences Institute (MLSI), Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health, and the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute IRB (BIDI), for sharing real-world experiences in managing and controlling emerging infectious diseases, and for allowing participants to visit their BSL-3 laboratory and advanced molecular and sequencing facilities.
A big thanks to all the instructors for sharing their knowledge and dedication. We’re excited to see how our participants will use these genomic techniques to help combat tuberculosis in their communities!
