1) Prepare an escape route from your home
• If the second floor has no balcony/no exit, use thick rope, bed sheets, or curtains tied together as an emergency rope.
• Secure tightly to a strong structural point of the house.
❗ Do NOT tie to anything weak or detachable such as curtain rods or shelves.
⸻
2) Prepare flotation aids
Anything with air inside can float:
• Covered water containers
• Water gallons
• Foam
• Hard plastic boxes
💡 If unavailable, use wooden doors, wall panels, or hard plastic storage lids as rafts.
💡 Long-sleeve shirts or long pants can also work—tie the cuffs and trap air inside to create an emergency floatation device.
⸻
3) Prepare tools to keep dangerous animals away
Floodwater can bring snakes, rats, and venomous insects.
Have items that help maintain distance, such as:
• Long-handled broom
• Mop
• Strong metal hanger
• High-powered flashlight
(Not to harm them—only to keep them away.)
⸻
4) Emergency survival kit
Keep high, dry, and easy to grab. Pack in waterproof zip-lock bags:
• Personal medication
• Phone + power bank
• ID/important cards + cash
• Dried snacks
• Flashlight
• Trash bags (waterproof / flotation aid)
• One set of clothes
⸻
5) If trapped on an upper floor
• Signal for help: red cloth, flashlight, or tapping metal objects
• Stay together at the highest reachable point
• Wait for rescue teams
⸻
6) What NOT to do
• Do NOT use sharp objects in the water
• Do NOT touch wet electrical poles, outlets, or appliances
• Do NOT swim against the current
• Do NOT climb unstable or loose structures
⸻
🐾 7) Helping Your Pets
• Never tie pets to poles/fences/fixed objects—fast-rising water can cause drowning.
• Strong currents can tighten leashes and cause injury.
• Move pets to higher ground or floating items such as:
– Covered plastic crates
– Solid baskets
– Hard storage boxes
• If you must secure them:
✔️ Tie them loosely to a floating object
✔️ Enough to prevent drifting away, but not tight enough to trap them as water rises
• Keep pets close to their owner at all times.
💡 For small animals:
Place in a hard plastic crate and tie loosely to a large floating object for safety.
⸻
🆘 If water reaches the rooftop
This is a life-threatening emergency.
Evacuate the building and keep yourself afloat as long as possible.
Useful flotation items:
• Wooden doors
• Wooden tables
• Foam
• Water gallons
• Basins
• Water buckets
Principle: Anything containing air = buoyant.
Survival method:
• Hold onto large floating objects
• Or tie yourself loosely to a floating object (to prevent drifting, not to restrict movement)
• Move toward:
– Tall buildings
– Higher rooftops
– Strong structures
Emergency flotation from trash bags:
• Fill the bag with air and tie the opening → works extremely well as a buoy.
Wishing everyone safety—please stay alert and prepared 🤍
