Happy Earth Day Treasures 🌏💚 Children in early childhood are so curious about the natural world and learning about all it's natural phenomena. Jumping in puddles, collecting leaves, washing rocks and saying hello to all of the tiny creatures we share our home with. When children connect with the outdoor world and have menaingful experiences in nature, they will grow to love and protect the environment.

Children don't need more plastic toys, pointless worksheets and adults telling them what to do.... Children need more adventures, time to enjoy the true nature of early childhood and enjoy playing in all of its magical forms. So wonderful to network with so many inspirational educators in early childhood today, advocating for children through purposeful play and forest school approaches. 🌈🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

I decided to move outdoors and live with these magical creatures. There are few more dramatic landscape shifts than the moment you crest the mountain pass from Khovsgol into the wild. The Tsaatan people are some of the worlds last reindeer nomads. Tucked away in the pine tree forests high up on the snowy mountain tops where the climate can reach lower than -30 are the handmade teepees and camps. Living here was not easy due to the extreme weather conditions but spending time with the people and learning about their reindeer traditions has been such a wholesome experience. The children play outdoors all day and engage with nature, building a snowman and creating theor own wonderful ways to play. ❄🏔🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌

Story Jars are a wonderful way to encourage children to use their imagination, practice new language and create unique stories. Have you noticed that children love to make collections and gather treasures and trinkets?
These story jars are inspired from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The children explored mark making in the style of Eric Carle's artwork and made leaves. They used the hole punchers to create holes in the leaves just like when the caterpillar does in the story. They then practiced mark making by adding details to the leaves. The children scooped, measured and filled their jars with sparkles a homemade caterpillar and a tiny ladybird. They can look inside the jars and talk about what they see and create wonderful stories. Try these out with your little ones and see their imagination come to life. 💛🌈📚🦠

Superworm joins me in all my training and workshops I lead for early childhood educators. He comes along on the journey with me. I recently delivered a conference for over 100 early childhood graduates and celebrated all things EYFS with them. We sprinkled magic, creativity and inspiration together as they learnt more about the importance of play, celebrating unique ideas and encouraging children to be children and have heaps of fun! Stop formalising early childhood, stop mandating things which are not developmentally appropriate and stand up for children everywhere, ensuring every child has the best start in life.

What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks is a fantastic rhyming book for children. The children enjoyed re-telling the story at the story shelf, made ladybird observations in their journals and collaborated to make a story map of the farm in the book. 🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞

Today on the mountain I found this gorgeous children's book botique. Little Lion is situated on the road to Samoeng and is filled with so many second hand children's books. It's a great place to bring children to find some new books for their bookshelf at home. We then enjoyed a cup of coffee in nature. 💚📚📚📚
