Oncology treatment with Proton Therapy in CMUH, Taiwan.
Proton Therapy, compared to X-ray therapy, releases lower energy in normal tissues en route and gives off its maximum energy at the intended depth of tumor site (Bragg peak).
This precision targeting minimizes side effects and improves control rates. It is suitable for tumors in various parts of the body, especially in sensitive areas or near vital organs, such as brain, head and neck, breast, lung, liver and prostate. Children with cancers may benefit greatly from proton therapy as it reduces long-term after effect.
Usually Proton therapy treatment takes 4-8 weeks with 5 sessions per week. Treatment plan is provided by doctor after medical imaging examination.
