Would you believe me if I said your mood is less about your brain and more about your gut??

Through the gut–brain axis, your digestive system and nervous system are in constant conversation.

Around 90% of serotonin is produced in the gut, alongside key neurotransmitters that influence calm, focus & emotional resilience (you feel like crying every month 2days before your period? Hormones and Gut have a BIG influence on this)

When the gut is inflamed, stressed or undernourished, that signal travels straight to the brain.

The result can look like anxiety, low mood, brain fog, irritability or feeling constantly on edge… like you had 20cups of caffeine.

In most cases, athletes think it’s mobility, but more often it’s a lack of control and stabilization.
*** That’s the part nobody wants to hear, btw.

As a coach working with athletes online and in person, I see the same pattern repeatedly.

You stretch your shoulders daily.
Hang from bars.
Smash foam rollers.

And still miss depth in the overhead squat or feel unstable in your snatches.

Here’s the contrarian truth.
Mobility isn’t about getting looser.
It’s about earning range you can own under load.

If you can’t actively control your midline, shoulders, and thoracic spine in an overhead position, your body will always put the brakes on. Some tightness is also protection, not a limitation.

These movements are a combination of stretching and strengthening drills that combine:
• thoracic extension
• shoulder flexion
• scapular control
• core engagement

And yes, there are absolutely instances where it is a mobility issue and these movements can help as well.

Therefore ***
*** Stop chasing more range.
*** Start slowing your mobility work down and ask one question during every rep:

“Can I breathe, brace, and stay stacked here?”

If the answer is no, that’s your work.

Do these drills before squats, snatches, presses, or even on rest days.
Controlled sets, core engaged at all times. No rushing. No forcing.

Strong overhead positions are built, not just stretched into existence.

There are many different ways to curate a caloric deficit if you’re looking to shed fat.
Most people try to shrink calories first.
Smart bodies don’t cooperate with that.
They adapt.
They slow down.
They fight back.

Below is long-term, sustainable options to keep your bodyfat% balanced and your body looking strong and lean without sacrificing recovery or constantly feeling hungry:

BUILD MUSCLE
Muscle is metabolic currency.
The more you have, the more energy you burn at rest, the better you partition calories, and the more resilient your body becomes to stress and aging.

ANCHOR WITH PROTEIN
Protein isn’t a macro trend. It’s a biological signal.
It regulates appetite hormones, stabilises blood sugar, preserves lean mass, and increases the thermic cost of eating. Aim for 30–40g of protein per meal to support stable energy, hormones, and satiety.

MOVEMENT
Daily, non-negotiable movement increases energy output without triggering metabolic defence. Walking, lifting, living like a human again. This is how the body stays permissive to fat loss.

CALM YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
A regulated nervous system changes everything.
When the body exits fight-or-flight, digestion improves, cravings reduce, recovery increases.
Calm is metabolic intelligence.

SLEEP
Sleep is when the body recovers, the nervous system resets, and cortisol drops. Poor sleep increases hunger hormones, reduces insulin sensitivity, and lowers training output.
