Yam Khang, or Thai fire therapy, is an ancient Lanna tradition performed by a skilled therapist. The therapist first bathes their foot in a healing oil infused with local herbs. They then slip their foot into an iron plough shear, a khang, heated over an open fire. The therapist then performs the massage using only the one foot. Farming communities in northern Thailand have used the khang technique for centuries, attributing its mythical properties to part of farming life.
