Minerva Yoga Jivamukti Yoga Teacher & Yoga Mentor. I’m Minerva, a francovenezuelan woman feeling mostly like a world citizen. The yoga practice gave me so much ! Namasté

I was born near to the Amazon forest in Venezuela. I spend my childhood surrounded by nature and wild animals. Spirituality, yoga and vegetarianism were transmitted to me by my mom when I was a child. I moved to France when I was 18yo and now I’m living in the magic Island of Koh Phangan. My yoga journey as a practitioner started in 2015 in Barcelona at the Jivamukti Yoga School. A safe space, understanding, compassion, clarity, ease and so much more. It became evident for me that I wanted to share this magic, these tools and gifts with others. I became a 300h Jivamukti yoga teacher in 2017 in Costa Rica and my journey as a teacher started in Marseille later on that year. In 2021 I finished my Jivamukti Teacher Apprenticeship Program in Barcelona and obtained the 800h advanced certificate. In 2021 I got my certificated as a Informed Trauma Yoga teacher with Radika foundation and school based in Barcelona. Jivamukti Yoga is a path to liberation through compassion for all beings. A spiritual and physical practice which find its roots in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. The Jivamukti Yoga method is grounded in the original meaning of the sanskrit word Asana as “seat, connection”. The relationship to the earth and Earth implies all of life. I will be happy to accompany you through the journey of the yoga practices and healing. Sharing with you all I have to offer, listening to your story and your needs and goals.

Knowledge, Wisdom, Speech, Silence, Truth, Self Study, Self Expression…

All these topics fascinate me and I find them all so rich and interesting to share and invite reflection upon during the practice.

In class we have been discussing the importance of creative as our life force, as creators that we are as nature is🌷

🗣️ How we can get closer to our own truth and how to learn to share it with kindness, the importance of not overstepping our truth and creating healthy boundaries

🧘🏽‍♀️ And how silence is one of the greatest teachers, his much wisdom and answers we can find when we give space to silence to speak…

How would you approach these topics and make them relatable ?

Thank you .lauritzen for such beautiful topic for this month’s Jivamukti yoga focus 🙏🏽

Here for you👇🏽

Simple tips to instantly increase self-confidence before and during the class 💪🏽

1️⃣ Own Your Space, Own Your Posture: Standing or sitting with an upright spine, relaxed shoulders, and deep breaths doesn’t just help you look confident—it makes you feel grounded. This shift in body language brings calm and presence, empowering you from the moment you step into the room.

2️⃣ Use Clear, Simple Cues: Keep instructions short and direct (without skipping options or variations). This not only projects confidence but also calms your mind and your students’. Simplified cues allow you to stay present, creating a flow where you’re in control, and helping your students connect more deeply with their bodies.

3️⃣ Pause and Breathe Between Cues: Pausing gives you time to breathe, collect yourself, and stay grounded. It prevents the rush to fill silence and allows you to be fully present. For example, during a 5-breath hold, give cues in the 1st and 3rd breaths, leaving the 2nd and 4th in silence.

4️⃣ Offer Hands-On Assists: Providing hands-on assists builds confidence by strengthening your connection with students. Supporting someone physically creates a sense of leadership and engagement, making you feel more capable and present in the class. Even simple assists can have a powerful impact.

5️⃣ Prepare the Space with Intention: Lighting a candle, burning incense, and playing soft music shifts your focus from inner doubt to creating a peaceful atmosphere. This intentional preparation helps you step into a mindset of service, moving from thoughts of doubt to the heart-centered desire to share.

6️⃣ Chant OM to Ground Yourself: Chanting OM at the start of class releases tension and anxiety, connecting you to your breath and helping you let go. The vibration of the sound roots both you and your students, setting a calm and confident tone for the session.

And don’t forget to comment “HANDS” to receive my Free Hands-on Assist mini course🙌🏼

Why do you teach yoga?
The answer to that question will reveal a big part of what yoga is for you 👀
Do you teach yoga for its physical benefits? For its spiritual approach? For its modern popularity?
I deeply believe that there is no wrong answer to this. Any choice must be respected and has its place. But there is something in yoga that makes it different from Pilates, gymnastics, mobility training, and any other physical activity ☝🏽 And when we teach that, when we transmit that as teachers, THEN we start making a meaningful change in people’s lives and in the world 🫶🏽
For me, yoga is therapy — a physical, mental, and emotional therapy. As a person with a deep interest in mental health and trauma, and who has experienced depression and overcome it through different yoga practices, I decided many years ago to share these tools with people, and today to share them with yoga teachers in search of more depth in their teaching.
Through dharma talks, chanting of mantras, trust and exchange between teacher and student, overcoming mental limitations and gaining self-control through asana practice and pranayama, teaching meditation always ✨
We go through all these topics in my mentorship program, for you to learn how to build yoga classes with meaning and to support you in shining your full potential 🚀

Is teaching only asana really teaching yoga? 🤔

While asana is important, yoga extends far beyond the physical postures. Without incorporating meditation, mantras, and ethical practices, we’re only scratching the surface of what yoga truly offers.

So how can we bring these deeper elements into our classes?

I start my classes chanting a mantra and/or sharing a personal experience that ties into yogic philosophy and I end my classes with a 5-minute meditation. Sometimes just a moment of stillness and breath awareness can be transformative.

Including yoga philosophy, meditation and pranayama in a class can feel overwhelming or a lot at first, but it is all about not only giving importance to the physical practice and diving our energy and attention on all these elements.
When we do it, we realize that is not really difficult is actually easier because they don’t need to be long or complex to create a profound impact ☝🏽

As teachers, it’s our role to offer more than just physical instruction—we can guide our students towards a holistic yoga experience. 🌱

In my next newsletters I’ll be sharing a full class with all these elements together. Send me a DM with your email to get it 😊

Surya Yantrasana (Compass Pose) – Preparation 🙌🏽

This asana is considered a peak pose because it requires significant body conditioning and thoughtful preparation of multiple areas of the body, especially the shoulders, hips, hamstrings, side body, and psoas, to approach the pose safely and without pain or injury ☝🏽

This drill combines shoulder opening, hamstring length, side-torso mobility, and psoas preparation in a dynamic and accessible way.

The psoas plays a key role here: it supports hip flexion on the extended-leg side and is lengthened on the kneeling side, allowing the pelvis to lower with control while protecting the lower back.

When cueing this movement, place strong emphasis on pressing the sit bone of the extended leg forward (right or left). This action helps keep the hips open and oriented to the side, rather than collapsing or rotating toward the floor, and creates more space for the side bend and hamstring work.

Other poses that can help prepare your students for Compass Pose include:
🔹 Malasana
🔹 Prasarita Padottanasana C
🔹 Skandasana (arms extended and/or with a bind)
🔹 Ardha Hanumanasana (Half Split)
🔹 Utthan Pristhasana (Lizard)
🔹 Upavistha Konasana with side stretch

What prep poses do you like to use for Compass? 👇🏽

Try these cues instead 👇🏽🔥

I love alignment, I really see the potential in it to understand our bodies and the practice of asana BUT only when the focus is not on the “shape”

Too often, yoga teachers are taught to cue what a pose should look like, as if there’s one correct way to express an asana.

But bodies are different. Proportions, mobility, strength, past injuries, all of these affect how a pose will feel and function for each person.

When we teach alignment through sensation instead of shape, we shift the student’s focus from performing to experiencing.

For example:
❌ Instead of: “Straighten your leg”
✅ Try: “Press down through your heel and feel your thigh engage”

❌ Instead of: “Square your hips”
✅ Try: “Can you feel more space if you gently draw the left hip back?”

❌ Instead of: “Flatten your back”
✅ Try: “Notice the length from your tailbone to the crown of your head”

❌ Instead of: “Tuck your tailbone”
✅Try: “Can you feel your lower belly lift when you root through your feet?”

This kind of cueing builds awareness, not dependence. It empowers students to take ownership of their practice.

I usually use these kind of cues once the students are on the pose to invite that exploration.

Alignment is not visual perfection, it’s functional clarity, stability, and a felt sense of connection.

Let’s stop molding bodies into idealized postures. Let’s start guiding students toward alignment that supports their growth from the inside out.

When I watched that old video of me leading my first dharma talk and mantra chant, I smiled with so much tenderness.

There I was so nervous, speaking in broken English, trying to remember everything I’d prepared… but showing up with a heart full of love and the deep desire to share this practice.

And like most new yoga teachers, I made so many “mistakes.” Essential, mistakes.

Not because I wasn’t good enough,
But because that’s how we learn.

Years later, I see the same patterns in the teachers I mentor:
Over-cueing. Avoiding silence. Feeling pressure to be liked. Doubting their voice. Rushing to teach the perfect class.

These roadblocks are so common and completely human.
We don’t grow by avoiding them.
We grow by walking through them with awareness, reflection, and support.

And if you’re in that phase right now, I want you to know: you’re not alone.
Your desire to continue sharing and not giving this up when it gets hard already means you’re on the right path and that your “why” is authentic and true.

I support the yoga teachers I mentor to move through these exact challenges, building clarity, confidence, and a deeper connection to their teaching.

🧡 If this resonates with you and you’re ready to go deeper, send me a DM. I’d love to get in touch and support your journey.

The Power of Friendliness & Kindness 🤍

Maitrī is a Sanskrit term meaning unconditional friendliness, is a practice of becoming a true friend to yourself and kindness towards others even in moments of discomfort or difficulty.

When we share this concept in class, whether through personal stories, reflections, or simple examples, it creates an environment where students can see that it’s okay to struggle and they can still meet themselves with kindness.

✨ Teaching maitri means inviting your students to:
🤲🏽 Let go of self-judgment
🫶🏼 Cultivate a relationship with themselves built on care, not criticism
👌🏽 Embrace the present moment as it is, not as they think it should be

When you weave Maitrī into your classes, you’re not just teaching yoga, you’re helping students build , emotional , and -compassion that lasts far beyond the mat.

As you guide your students, reflect on this:
How are you inviting them to cultivate kindness in their practice and in their life?

Let’s share Maitrī in the classroom, through stories, teachings, and simple reminders that kindness toward ourselves and others is a lifelong practice and one of the most powerful tools we can develop ✨

If you want to get more inspiration and ideas to share yoga philosophy and more,

Confidence doesn’t appear out of nowhere. It can consciously be built, step by step 🙌🏽

Most yoga teachers hesitate with hands-on assists not because they’re incapable, but because they’re uncertain.

Uncertain about how to touch, when, and how much.

🧠 Science shows that when we’re unsure, the brain triggers hesitation as a protective mechanism. But when we have a clear plan, our nervous system settles, and we act with confidence and presence.

The same applies to assisting.

📌 When you know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, clarity replaces doubt.
And that clarity is felt by your students too👁️

These 10 steps help you:
🙌🏽 Refine your technique
👁️ Deepen your presence
🗣️ Communicate with confidence
🤲🏽 And create trust through intentional, empowered touch

💬 If you want to become more confident and more effective in your assists

My course The Power of Touch teaches you everything from the foundations to 75+ techniques across 20+ asanas.
