We don’t suggest avoiding the festive season (unless of course you are doing one of our signature detoxes) as deprivation in this case can make you miserable. Instead, we believe in setting you up for all of the fun, just in a more nurturing way.
Below are some quick hot tips to get you well prepared and lay out some good intentions to have yourself a very festive season without the hurt - during and after (keep posted for the afters, those golden nuggets can bring you back from what feels like the brink).
#1 Prep Tip
Hydration, hydration, hydration - probably a no brainer, but seriously the most lacking before an event.
*Water (½ tsp of himalayan salts in one of your glasses of water helps with absorption DYK?)
*Electrolytes - Coconut water (or make your own electrolyte drink with - water, lime/ lemon juice, himalayan salt, bi-carb soda, honey, ginger if you like. *recipe in the comments)
*Soda water with different flavour combos to hit the spot - lime/lemon, cucumber, raspberry & mint, blueberry & basil, ginger…whatever you like really to get you party ready and not looking prune like the next day.
#2 Prep Tip
As we mentioned before, eating is definitely NOT cheating, so a decent, well balanced meal will set you up for success!
*Our livers love bitter foods, so adding to a meal some rocket/ arugula, cruciferous veggies - broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage and kale or a cup of green tea or even dandelion is going to give it one giant hug before you step outside the door.
*Clean protein - eggs, fish, chicken, tofu will hep to slow down the emptying of your stomach
*Healthy fats - Olive oil, coconut oil, nuts & seeds can minimise inflammation caused by excess drinking
#3 Prep Tip
AVOID
*Salty takeaways - always laden with refined vegetable oils and refined salts making them practically devoid of nutrients and your best defence.
*Refined carbs - the white stuff will have your insulin levels spiking when alcohol comes into the mix and more chances are, you will be chasing for the midnight munchies and making poor choices - which will only add to the negative effects come the morning.
