As a trained first aider incidents like these are very simple to deal with … always call for EMS 1669
1, there is no serious bleeding (so it’s not primary care)
2, although the wound looks horrific, for your role as a first aider it’s very simple to deal with.
3, take a photo of the wound so the medical staff do not need to remove the dressing until at hospital! They can see the wound with the level of detail required.
4, put on gloves, prepare saline solution, gauze (preferably “blood stopper” or dressing pad), conform bandage & medical tape (strips pre prepared)
5, use the saline solution on gauze (preferably “blood stopper” or dressing pad) - this will help prevent the dressing from sticking to the wound. Apply the dressing (preferably move the flap of skin back over the wound), wrap with conform bandage & secure with tape. Remove the gloves safely using alcohol to clean hands & forearms as necessary, collect all medical waste & dispose of it in a safe manner.
6, time allowing you can check mobility of the hand & fingers (giving that information to medical staff)
(Specifically for Thailand)
7, gather details such as: chronic diseases, current medications they are taking, allergies to medicine, height, weight, hotel / room number, telephone number & is insurance held.
