Why a small amount of knowledge can be dangerous!

Likely factors that made this case higher risk, lack of integral knowledge, alcohol & adrenaline.

Saturday morning members of the kusoldharm foundation were called to Soi Bangla for an unconscious male - ambulance 364 attended (unfortunately our trainer & volunteers from Rescue Team Volunteers Phuket was dealing with a murder suspect that was brought in by police for treatment)

The patient & family refused treatment / transport to hospital. Fully understandably as the crew can only provide care etc with consonant, the ambulance returned to the hospital.

Approximately 1 hr later a male with facial injuries was brought to hospital with his wife & brother in law.

The injuries consisted of a laceration to his lip & possible head injury, they were met by Vincent who asked about the situation:

Male had been drinking at a bar on Soi Bangla, had turn around and tripped over a stool and hit his face on the ground, apparently becoming unconscious for a few seconds. In this time CPR was performed on the patient before coming around. Ambulance had arrived after this point & left.

This is our opinion based on what Vincent discussed with the family:

Luckily the CPR was ineffective, the patient was unconscious not in cardiac arrest (these actions could have caused the patient to go into cardiac arrest)

They missed three important steps verbal, physical contact & then checking for breathing! If these steps had been taken the patient would have regained consciousness (as he did)

Fortunately the care given was inadequate.

We recommend professional training before trying to assist in cases like this.
