An eldery couple walked in to try their first ever yoga class this morning, the next available class is: hot ashtanga. After 5 minutes waiting inside the room, she walked out and asked “will you switch on the AC when the class begin?” With a smile, she got unexpected answer: We are actually going to turn on the heaters soon”. She gasped in astonishment.
During the first part of the class, the couple were constantly checking on each other, concerned about each other well beings. The regular yogis were distracted from their normal strong flow of practice. To anyone surprise, the couple stayed until the end of the class, surviving the heat, exhaustion, and challenge. This unlikely couple were dying but reborn again, feeling like a million bucks. Not only that, their determination and will power have turn the feeling of annoyance to compassion, even inspiration! When we’re facing a series of life challenge, how we approach is all up to us. There no right or wrong. We can walk out and dismiss things that are not in our comfort zone. If we can’t escape, are we focusing on what’s going wrong at the expense of noticing what’s going well. Are we feeling miserable, angry, frustrated and humiliated? Or are we seeing it as opportunity to grow and picking up after every falls with a smile. Remember this torture shall pass, nothing is permanent. Standing in one leg is not the goal, but trying to do it with the best effort give us a sense of accomplishment, and most importantly, makes us feel good, like a champion.
