🧠Glioblastoma
is an aggressive form of brain cancer, also known as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). This type of tumor arises from glial cells, which support nerve cells. Glioblastoma is characterized by its rapid growth and invasive nature, making it one of the most severe forms of brain cancer.
Characteristics:
🔸Malignancy: Glioblastoma is classified as a grade 4 malignant tumor (according to the WHO classification).
🔸Location: The tumor primarily affects brain tissue, but it can also spread to the spinal cord.
🔸Symptoms: Headaches, seizures, memory problems, speech difficulties, paralysis, and other neurological symptoms depending on the tumor’s location.
Treatment:
🔸Surgical intervention: The primary treatment aimed at removing as much of the tumor as possible.
🔸Radiation and chemotherapy: Typically administered after surgery to destroy remaining cancer cells.
🔸Targeted therapy and immunotherapy: Used to enhance treatment effectiveness.
Despite its aggressive nature, glioblastoma can be partially managed with comprehensive treatment, though the prognosis is often poor due to the high recurrence rate.
