Lokomat is a technologically advanced robot-assisted gait training device. Patients are supported on the treadmill by a waist belt and the robot's shrouds while the robotic device moves the patient's legs through the "normal" gait cycle. As the treatment progresses, the amount of weight placed on the legs increases and the assistance coming from the robotic legs to the patient's body decreases. This allows the patient to assume more and more responsibility for the coordination needed during walking. The patient is gradually trained throughout the process to regain walking function.
