FROM WEEKS TO YEARS — The OUTCOME REMAINS 👂
From the first weeks after surgery, Ivaylo’s ear reconstruction outcome was already clear —
natural in appearance and anatomically harmonious with the normal ear.
Two years later, receiving a heartfelt message from Ivaylo’s family and hearing that their child’s confidence and happiness increase day by day
has become the most meaningful reward for all the effort behind this journey.

We are grateful to the Kovachki family for sharing Ivaylo’s two-year follow-up photo with us
and for allowing us to see and share these long-term outcomes. What time has shown us is something else: that the outcome remains just as natural years later, and that the confidence and happiness it brings continue to grow.

MICROTIA TREATMENT in TWINS. Two 8-year-old twin patients — one girl and one boy — were referred to our clinic with bilateral grade 2 microtia in both children.
A rare and extraordinary presentation.

For me, as a microtia surgeon, this case was not only exciting — it was a remarkably challenging task.
I had to create four ears that closely resembled one another, demanding absolute precision in symmetry, proportion, and detail.
Creating four ears that needed to mirror one another required absolute focus, precision, and years of hands-on experience. This kind of work cannot be rushed, copied, or standardized. It lives in the surgeon’s hands.

Every cartilage framework was sculpted by hand.
Every millimeter mattered.

And in the end, the happiness we all shared at the end of the treatment was immense — fitting for a case that carried twice the difficulty and twice the responsibility.

Many boys born with microtia grow their hair long to hide their small ear and avoid unwanted attention.
After ear reconstruction, the very first thing they want to do is try a short haircut — and show their new ear proudly.

That’s why some followers think the “before” photo shows a girl and the “after” photo shows a boy.
Yes its the same kid. Just a new ear and a brand-new haircut 😌👂✨

The shape and size of the ear can have a significant impact on self-confidence and self-esteem. If the outer ear is significantly underdeveloped at birth, as with microtia, it affects many aspects of a child’s life. Microtia can negatively impact body image and disrupt personal and social development. However, ear reconstruction can prevent the psychological and social difficulties associated with this condition by allowing the child to feel “normal.” We recently completed treatment for 10-year-old Eymen, who was born with unilateral microtia. He was very cooperative throughout the treatment and was a great help to all of us. We are grateful for his patience and cooperation, along with his loving family. The outcome is wonderful, as they deserve: Happy Children, Happy Families, Happy Us.

His transformation from a child to a confident young man after autologous ear reconstruction performed by Dr. Mutaf demonstrates once again that children born with microtia can regain their self-confidence after successful ear reconstruction. It is dedicated to educating the public about Microtia & Atresia, in hopes, the next time someone sees a child or adult with missing ears that they just say “hi” instead of staring or asking questions. FURKAN’S NEW EAR ✨

The appearance of an ear can deeply affect a child’s confidence and self-esteem.
Microtia is not just a physical condition — it can affect how a child feels about themselves, how they connect with others, and how they grow emotionally and socially.

For 8-year-old Furkan, born with Grade 3 microtia, ear reconstruction changed everything. With his new ear — built entirely from his own tissues — we witnessed his confidence bloom and his smile grow wider. The joy and relief in his family’s eyes reminded us once again why we love what we do.

MICROTIA IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE EAR !
It often comes with asymmetry of facial expressions resulting from complete or partial facial palsy.

Nazlı is an 8 year old child born with an atypical form of grade II microtia, and a remarkably asymmetric smile due to contralateral mandibular nerve palsy. For her, we performed autologous ear reconstruction and smile correction simultaneously.
Now, this lovely child has a new ear — made entirely from her own tissues — and a beautifully symmetric smile. 👂 😊
