Microtia is a congenital condition where a child is born with an underdeveloped or missing external ear. But, by using advanced reconstructive techniques,a natural-looking ear can be formed to restore both appearance and confidence.
Our posts are intended to inform parents worldwide who have children born with microtia and are seeking treatment for their children. Results may vary depending on each patient’s characteristics. “microtia

The shape and size of the ear can have a significant impact on self-confidence and self-esteem. If the outer ear is significantly underdeveloped at birth, as with microtia, it affects many aspects of a child’s life. Microtia can negatively impact body image and disrupt personal and social development. However, ear reconstruction can prevent the psychological and social difficulties associated with this condition by allowing the child to feel “normal.” We recently completed treatment for 10-year-old Eymen, who was born with unilateral microtia. He was very cooperative throughout the treatment and was a great help to all of us. We are grateful for his patience and cooperation, along with his loving family. The outcome is wonderful, as they deserve: Happy Children, Happy Families, Happy Us.

Here are some photos from our video released yesterday. Ömer is a 15-year-old boy born with unilateral microtia atresia. His transformation from a child to a confident young man after autologous ear reconstruction performed by Dr. Mutaf demonstrates once again that children born with microtia can regain their self-confidence after successful ear reconstruction. As Dr. Mutaf always says, “NO TEARS FOR SMALL EARS.” Don’t cry for your children born with small ears; Dr. Mutaf and his team are here to help.

Every November 9th honors children and adults who were born with Microtia & Atresia. It is dedicated to educating the public about Microtia & Atresia, in hopes, the next time someone sees a child or adult with missing ears that they just say “hi” instead of staring or asking questions. This video was prepared for celebration of this very special day.

FURKAN’S NEW EAR ✨

The appearance of an ear can deeply affect a child’s confidence and self-esteem.
Microtia is not just a physical condition — it can affect how a child feels about themselves, how they connect with others, and how they grow emotionally and socially.

For 8-year-old Furkan, born with Grade 3 microtia, ear reconstruction changed everything. With his new ear — built entirely from his own tissues — we witnessed his confidence bloom and his smile grow wider. The joy and relief in his family’s eyes reminded us once again why we love what we do.

MICROTIA IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE EAR !
It often comes with asymmetry of facial expressions resulting from complete or partial facial palsy.

Nazlı is an 8 year old child born with an atypical form of grade II microtia, and a remarkably asymmetric smile due to contralateral mandibular nerve palsy. For her, we performed autologous ear reconstruction and smile correction simultaneously.
Now, this lovely child has a new ear — made entirely from her own tissues — and a beautifully symmetric smile. 👂 😊

Alexia Sofia, a 7-year-old from Romania 🇷🇴, was born with Grade 3 Microtia.

She recently came to the Dr. Mutaf International Microtia Clinic, where Professor Mehmet Mutaf handcrafted her a brand new ear — using only her own rib cartilage and skin. No implants. No foreign materials.

Now, Alexia can embrace every moment of her childhood with newfound confidence. Her new ear is not only beautiful and flexible, but truly hers — designed to grow with her for life.

At our clinic, we are dedicated to personalized, autologous ear reconstruction that restores more than just appearance. It restores identity, confidence, and the freedom to be seen.

We are proud of Alexia’s journey — and honored to be part of this joyful milestone. 💙

Meet Cesur — the Braveheart.

Today, at Dr. Mutaf International Microtia Clinic, we performed a single-ear reconstruction for a child born with microtia.

This is more than just a surgery — it’s about giving a child the chance to look in the mirror and smile with confidence.
Ear reconstruction in microtia cases is one of the most delicate and complex procedures in reconstructive surgery, and such natural-looking results remain rare worldwide.

Our clinic, located in Bodrum, Türkiye, has welcomed patients from nearly 40 different countries.

“Meet 14-year-old Madina from Uzbekistan, born with Grade III Microtia, a condition in which the outer ear is underdeveloped. She faced challenges growing up, but never stopped dreaming of a change. Madina came to our clinic with her family. We built a new ear for her from her own cartilage and skin. “This was not just a transformation for her, but a new beginning.
Because we use the patient’s own tissue, there is no risk of rejection with autologous ear reconstruction; only a natural and permanent result.” “This technique is a game changer for children born with microtia, restoring not only appearance but also self-confidence.”
