Reflux does not progress in the same way in every patient, and surgery is not necessary for all reflux cases. First, it is evaluated whether symptoms can be controlled with lifestyle modifications and medical treatment. However, in patients whose complaints persist despite long-term medication use, who develop damage to the esophagus, have a large hiatal hernia, or become dependent on medication, surgical treatment can be an effective and long-lasting option.
The key point is to refer the right patient for surgery at the right time. Therefore, reflux treatment should always be planned individually, and the decision should be made after a thorough evaluation.
