As plastic and reconstructive surgeons, a significant part of our work involves correcting tensions within the body that develop after an injury.

When wounds heal, tension can sometimes form in the skin. This can shift the position of facial features like the lips or eyelids, or severely restrict joint movements. For example, tension on the inner side of a finger or around the elbow can make it extremely difficult to extend the limb completely straight. This resulting tightness and restriction is known as a "contracture."

If a contracture has developed due to scarring, surgical treatment is the most effective way to release the tension and restore your natural mobility. ✨

Like all surgeries, plastic surgeries are also painful and precautions must be taken for this. The Department of Anesthesiology provides services in this regard. Before the operation, the patient is made pain free and then the operation begins. This process is called anesthesia.
The main types of anesthesia
General Anesthesia (Narcosis)
The patient is completely anesthetized. His breathing continues with a machine. During sleep, the patient does not feel anything. When the surgery is over, he is awakened again and allowed to breathe spontaneously and leaves the anesthesia machine. General anesthesia has become quite safe nowadays. Some patients prefer general anesthesia because they do not want to see or hear anything. However, “fear of narcosis” is still an important reality among the public. Because of this fear, many patients prefer to be operated on, if possible, without narcosis or, by their own words, without being put to sleep. Today, painless surgeries can be performed without being connected to an anesthesia machine, that is, without general anesthesia (narcosis).
Sedation Anesthesia
Very strong sedatives are given intravenously to the patient by the anesthesiologist. The patient falls asleep and does not feel pain. However, he can respond when asked questions and can do so when asked to move certain areas. When the intravenous drugs lose their effect, he returns to his normal alertness and can walk in a short time.

It has long been said that regular exercise is beneficial for a healthy and long life. But the concept of regular exercise is not very clear. Instead, it is generally accepted that daily walking is a more practical and easy exercise method. However, when it comes to walking, there is not enough explanatory information on its speed, distance and difficulty level (for example, uphill).
10,000 steps a day
We said that the easiest exercise is walking. However, the number of steps taken per day was not well defined. The general belief was that it was necessary to take at least 10,000 steps a day. However, a study published by I-Min Lee et al. on May 29, 2019 in the journal “JAMA Internal Medicine” is a game changer. According to the authors, the 10,000 steps per day event probably started like this: In 1965, the Japanese firm “Yamasa Clock and Instrument Company” introduced a step counter device. The trade name of this device was “Manpo-kei”. Its Japanese translation was “10,000 Pedometer”. In other words, this concept had nothing but a commercial name given to a product by a company. For some reason, these 10,000 steps have been accepted as the minimum amount to be taken per day without much thought.

Most of our facial structures are aesthetically important (eyes, nose, eyebrows, lips). The ear, on the other hand, is considered secondary in terms of aesthetics, especially in women, since it is under the hair. However, this is not true. As long as the inner and middle ear are intact, the shape of the outer ear, or even its absence, is not a serious obstacle to hearing (with the exceptions of a closed ear hole). When somebody makes an internet search about the treatment of facial moles, it’s possible to see a lot of websites describing mole removal without surgery and without leaving scars. Most frequent tool for this treatment is using lasers. Although this idea sounds good, in reality this method is not reliable. Laser treatment can not be done deeply because deep coagulation results ugly scars. The other disadvantage is pathological examination could not be done because the lesion totally evaporates. Laser evaporation might be suitable for benign skin lesions but it’s not always easy to differentiate a benign or malign lesion without pathological examination. So laser removal for skin moles is not a safe procedure.

What is a Skin Lesion?
Our skin has a more or less homogeneous appearance. Apart from physical injuries, there may be some formations that disrupt this smooth appearance. These lead to different properties, both visually and tactilely. For example, a raised appearance of skin attracts attention even if there is no color difference. Or a formation on the same level as the skin but in a different color draws attention. Even if there is no difference in color or appearance, if there is a difference in sensation, for example, if it hurts or itches, it still draws our attention. Each of these conditions is considered a skin lesion. Many times several findings occur together.
What causes skin lesions?
Skin lesions can be divided into two main parts
- Congenital lesions
