Some interesting yet disturbing facts about waiting times for medical treatments in Canada:

-Specialist physicians surveyed across 12 specialties and 10 Canadian provinces report a total waiting time of 19.0 weeks between referral from a general practitioner and elective treatment in 2011—the longest total wait time recorded since the Fraser Institute began measuring wait times in 1993.

-Patients in Ontario experience the shortest wait (14.3 weeks) followed by British Columbia (19.3 weeks), and Quebec (19.9 weeks)

-Patients wait longest to undergo plastic surgery (41.6 weeks) and wait least for medical oncology treatment (4.2 weeks)
After an appointment with a specialist, Canadians wait nearly 3 weeks longer than what physicians believe is “reasonable” for elective treatment.

-Throughout the provinces, in 2011 people are waiting for an estimated 941,321 procedures. Assuming that each person waits for only one procedure, 2.8 percent of Canadians are waiting for treatment

-Only 9.4 percent of patients are on waiting lists because they requested a delay or postponement

In Turkey, we work with doctors and make sure that treatment starts immediately. Why wait? Contact us now to arrange your consultation appointment.

Tomosynthesis

Tomosynthesis is a new digital mammography technology which is distinctly superior to other methods in breast cancer screening. Tomosynthesis is a 3-dimensional imaging technology whereas a regular mammography produces only a 2-dimensional image. The cross-sectional imaging features makes Tomosynthesis advantageous to standard digital mammography when determining the breast cancer. This method provides a clear illustration of the problematic areas by the three-dimensional presentation obtained by joining thin sections.

- Advantages of Tomosynthesis

-Allows the detection and diagnosis of even the smallest tumors.
-Reduces the possibility to call the patient for a repeat mammography; therefore reducing the dosage of radiation the patient is exposed to.
-Reduces the risk of unnecessary biopsy and surgery.
-Accurately pinpoints the tumour’s location in a 3-dimensionional map.
-Reduces pain by requiring less pressure on the breast during the shot compared to standard methods.

What is Immunotherapy?
Our body’s immune system works as a supervisory system against substances perceived as “foreign”. For example, an organ transferred from an incompatible donor is rejected by the immune system. Scientists have been studying to find ways to improve the body’s natural immune reaction against cancerous cells for numerous years. When such an approach is used as a treatment, it is called immunotherapy.

In which cancer types are immunotherapy effective?

Abdominoplasty (tummy Tuck) in Istanbul

Severe weight loss, pregnancy, and also the weakness of congenital tissues damage the skin massively by stretching it. The unsightly effects often affect negatively the self-esteem of the patient. Our specialists can help you regain your ideal body image. Liposuction and tummy tuck are the most efficient ways to get your body back into shape.

The tummy tuck also known as Abdominoplasty is a surgery that is performed relatively often. The skin of the abdomen and the abdominal muscles are tightened and the stomach gets a flatter and slimmer look. The section is set just above the p***c area. Streamlining at the same time and the belly button can be moved to a new location. A tummy tuck might be a good solution, after severe weight loss or pregnancy when the skin does not return to its initial form by itself. In addition, this operation can scar the lower abdomen, probably as a caesarean or from past operations. A tummy tuck is not possible in a marked obesity. The best way to reduce obesity in the long term is certainly a balanced and low-calorie diet and plenty of sports.

Risks and side effects of a Tummy Tuck
As all operations involve certain risks and complications, this can also be the case for the Tummy Tuck. Bleeding might occur as well as a reaction to the anaesthesia. The appearance of scars are generally lighter and thinner after eight months. The risk of complications is significantly increased if the patient is a smoker. Not quitting smoking might also have a negative effect on the wound healing. For smokers, but also for non-smokers in the case of a poor wound healing or in extreme cases a second procedure is necessary.
Defects in wound healing can cause painful and aesthetically disturbing pigmentation. In addition, scars shrink results in a restriction of movement. Such scars can either be corrected surgically or treated with conventional measures such as cream and compressions.

How the tissue reacts to the surgery, can never be defined in advance so despite all the care for the wound, healing can lead to asymmetries. In some cases, the scar tissue can protrude which can then be removed through a corrective surgery.

Blepharoplasty in Istanbul

Blepharoplasty consists of removing the hanging excess skin of the eyelids. With the advancing age the skin of the eyelids relaxes and eye bags are formed. This leads to a tired expression of the face. The disappearance of the old and tired expression restores energy and confidence. Surgical procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. However, it can be carried out at the request of the patient under general anaesthesia. The surgery lasts for about 2 hours for both eyelids. After surgery, the patient is discharged on the same day. After about 5 days the stitches are removed. After the surgery, 1 week passes for the swelling to go down. Patients are usually able to work again after a few days.

Hip Replacement in Istanbul - How to Plan your Trip?

Severe hip damage can be very hard to live with. What can add to one’s agony is the high cost involved in getting a hip replacement surgery. However, hip replacement in Istanbul can be a good option for people who want to improve their mobility and relieve hip pain without paying a lot. If you are considering hip replacement surgery in Istanbul, then it’s best to plan out your trip thoroughly.

Things to Keep in Mind When Planning Your Medical Trip

Choosing a good doctor will determine your outcome. Not all surgeons in Istanbul have ample experience in hip replacement surgery. Choose a doctor that has experience with hip replacemaent and can do a good job performing your surgery.

Pick a good time of the year to travel to Istanbul. The temperatures January in Istanbul are around 5-15 Celcius, while they are about 25-35 degrees Celcius in August. When you are planning your trip to Istanbul, you should choose the month which has the most pleasing weather in your opinion.

Book your flights ahead of time. In order to save the most amount of money on your flight, you should book your tickets about eight weeks in advance to get the most savings.

Plan to stay a few days after the surgery. Though it may be tempting to return home right after the surgery, it is advisable that you stay in Istanbul a few extra days. This will allow you to easily see your doctor should you need any follow up visit after your surgery.

Bring a friend along if possible. If you have any friends who need to get their own medical treatment, then try to bring them along! It’s always better to travel with someone rather than alone. Even if you don’t know anyone who would be interested in medical tourism in Istanbul, you may still want to consider bringing someone with you for moral support, family member or friend.

You can always change your mind. If you plan a medical trip to Istanbul for hip replacement surgery, but things aren’t as you had expected when you get here, you can change your mind. Don’t think that you have to go through with the surgery just because you’ve already taken the flight. Remember – we’re talking about your health, and it’s always best that you are fully confident with the procedure you are going to get and the doctor who is going to do it.

Planning your trip properly can help you have the best possible outcome when you travel to Istanbul for a hip replacement. And we will take care of all your needs, leaving you with your recovery only on your mind.

Hair Transplant in Istanbul

Hair transplantation is a surgical technique that moves individual hair follicles from a part of the body called the 'donor site' to a bald or balding part of the body known as the 'recipient site'. This technique is used primarily to treat male pattern baldness. It is a minimally invasive procedure where grafts containing hair follicles (that are genetically resistant to balding) are transplanted to the bald scalp.

Success depends on how experienced and competent the operating physician is, which equipment is selected for use, and how cohesive and well-organized the team is. Applications and techniques that have not passed comprehensive clinical trials may have disadvantages for the patient. The only options offered to patients in Istanbul are those that have been thoroughly tested and can provide great results with low risk.

Fue Hair Transplant Method

Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE, is a form of hair transplantation that was first introduced commercially in 2002. In the past, a major concern for FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) patients was that they would have an obvious scar on the back of the head, which would mean that it was noticeable if they ever.....
