🚗 Full Speed Ahead in Türkiye’s Automotive Sector
The sector continues to gain momentum at a rapid pace. Last week, we had the opportunity to visit the Mercedes-Benz Türkiye Hoşdere Bus Factory with EU Economic and Commercial Counsellors. Following the visit to the factory, the Counsellors held a meeting with the Automotive Industry Association (OSD) and members of the largest OEMS.

According to OSD 2025 shared data, Türkiye’s automotive sector continues to demonstrate strong and steady growth. Passenger car production reached 1.4 million units (+4% increase). Türkiye ranks 6th in passenger car production within the EU and 14th globally. In the bus segment, Türkiye holds the #1 position in Europe and ranks 4th worldwide—highlighting its global competitiveness and manufacturing strength.

Building on this momentum, we recently visited the Mercedes-Benz Otomotiv Türkiye Hoşdere Bus Factory. With over 7,000 employees and 59 years of history, it remains one of the largest and longest-standing foreign direct investments in Türkiye’s automotive sector. Did you know that 45% of all Mercedes buses are produced in Türkiye? About 50 % of trucks and 70% of buses are exported. Main export market of the company is the EU.

Together with Austrian automotive supplier companies, ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Türkiye continues engaging with OEMs in Türkiye—bringing Austrian know-how and strengthening cross-border collaboration.

Our team keeps growing stronger with the support of talented interns from Austria! 🇦🇹🤝🇹🇷

Almost every month, we have the pleasure of welcoming students from Austria to our ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA offices around the world and giving them the opportunity to gain practical experience. 🌍

This March, we are delighted to welcome Haris Turko to our Istanbul office. Currently studying Web Business & Technology at FH Kufstein Tirol, Haris will be supporting us until the end of April. After completing his exchange semester at Mahidol University in Thailand, he is now eager to gain hands‑on insights into Türkiye’s economy and immerse himself in its dynamic culture. 🌍

Haris started his internship with great momentum: preparations for our 4th Austrian Tourism Infrastructure Summit were already in full progress, and he was able to contribute right away. This gave him the chance to experience our work in practice and actively support the team. 🚀

We are excited to have Haris on board and look forward to the energy and fresh perspectives he will bring to our team. Welcome to Istanbul, Haris! 👋

💘 Valentine’s Day: Austria vs. Türkiye

Today is Valentine’s Day – and Austria and Türkiye show two different shopping mindsets when it comes to gifts for their loved ones. 💘

🇦🇹 Austria: Valentine’s Day is classic and calendar-driven. 68% plan to buy a gift, spending an average of €85 per person. Top choices: 🌹 flowers (57%), 🍫 sweets (23%) and 🍽️restaurant visits (16%). Gifts mainly go to partners – tradition clearly leads.

🇹🇷 Türkiye: Fashion is the undisputed No. 1 category. Shoppers focus less on price and more on “well-thought-out” gifts. Average budget: €100 (€ 122 among men). 57% have already decided, and 80% find online gift guides helpful. Self-gifting and beauty also play a bigger role than in Austria.

Bottom line: Both countries are eager to give – Austria sticks to timeless classics, while Türkiye blends romance with fashion, planning, and personal expression.

🇦🇹 Austrian Mobility Solution airpadz Takes the Stage at Bilişim Vadisi 🇹🇷

The Austrian mobility startup airpadz showcased its innovative solution at the B-Stars Mobility Accelerator Program Demo Day, hosted by known as the Silicon Valley of Türkiye. The B-Stars Mobility Accelerator Program continues to serve as a strong bridge between international startups and Türkiye’s growing mobility ecosystem. 🌍🚀

Developed and manufactured in Austria, airpadz was selected as one of 11 startups out of 109 applications to participate in the 11-week acceleration program, supported by 60 mentors and 14 specialized training sessions. During last week’s Demo Day, airpadz presented its technology to Turkish investors and key ecosystem stakeholders.

🚛 What does airpadz do?
airpadz develops patented aerodynamic solutions for trucks and buses, delivering 3–10% fuel or range savings while reducing costs and CO₂ emissions. The lightweight, biomimetic airpadz are maintenance-free and compatible with both OEM and aftermarket applications.
