Here are 7 practices to unlearn for your mental health.

1. **Seeking validation from outside sources → learn to validate yourself.**
2. **Putting yourself down → Stopping and questioning your self-talk.**
3. **Expecting everyone to like you → Recognizing that you can’t control what others think of you.**
4. **Making your happiness dependent on other people → Learn that we can’t control other people’s actions.**
5. **Avoiding your feelings → Naming and feeling your feelings.**
6. **Trying to do everything → Setting limits with yourself and others.**
7. **Prioritizing others’ needs over your own → Learning that your needs are just as important and that you deserve to meet them.**

Trauma doesn’t just live in memory — it lives in the body.

You might not consciously remember the moment… but your nervous system does.

It shows up in goosebumps, tension, nausea, or tears — triggered by a sound, a smell, a place, or a touch.
You’re not overreacting. You’re remembering — in the only way your body knows how.

✨ **If this sounds familiar:**
→ Ground yourself through the senses (touch something soft, name 5 things you see)
→ Let the feeling move through without judgment
→ Remind yourself: this is a memory — not the present
→ Support your nervous system with movement, breath, and safe connection
→ Trauma-informed therapy can help the body feel safe again

Understanding where and how your system has stored trauma memories in your body, behavior, and attitudes is often more important than the memory itself. Sometimes there’s a larger memory attached to certain trauma symptoms — other times it may be a collection of pain that grew over time ❤️
